Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Okay so I just spoke with one of the DIAC dealerships here in Dallas, they said a basic GIAC flash will give my 02 996 a 55-75 hp gain, and they will have dyno to approve it, however the GIAC along cost $3000.00 with $100 labor, I read many post about GIAC is that one everyone is talking about or this is something else?
I just find it very difficult to believe with 55-75 hp gain. what do you guys think?
Is your car a turbo, if not, then I believe they are quoting you the incorrect program as that sounds more like a turbo program if anything.
Such gains are NOT possible on an N/A 996 unless you go forced induction or do just about every single N/A mod out there (cams, TB, full exhaust, chip, intake) and rub some miracle cream on the shifter for good luck
Did anyone else play bull**** pyramid in high school? Bull****!!! There is absolutely no way that could happen unless your 02 996 was a turbo and they upped the boost significantly. Not possible. If it was possible everyone on this forum would have it.
For $2,000 more he can unlock the super duper secret code to get 35 more hp for a whopping 80hp gain. Ask him... Seriously, you'll be lucky if you get 10hp with just the ECU. 17hp is proven (kinda) with an ECU flash and an EVO air filter.
Bottom line: forget verything and save your cash for your next car. Maybe get a new exhaust if you want more sound, but don't expect miracles in the hp department either.
That would be possible only on the turbo. I had mine installed last friday and it is awesome. I paid 2000.00 plus 80.00 for install. I called about 9 dealers in my local area for pricing which ranged from 3600.00 to 2000.00 for the same exact thing. I went with the place that charged me 2000.00. GIAC offers a 30 day money back guarantee so you can try it for 29 days and if it don't like it you can get your money back except for labor to install and unistall it. The HP and TQ comes on much faster and at least for me there was a huge difference. It was not one of those things you have to try hard to see the difference it was very very noticable. If you have a revo tecknik dealer in your area they have a 5 hour free trial and in my opinion both products are about the same. I was origianlly going with the revo tune until I found a dealer that would give me the GIAC for only 2000.00
For non turbo you should get these gains 10-20 hp and 10-15 ft-lbs. Go with the 30 day trial.
Yea , what they all said, I am sure by now you know that it wont be ever possible. Save your money and i have some time share in Florida if interested?
First, yes the number you are getting quoted is for a turbo, so is the price. $3000 is the price for a Stage 3 turbo with modified/upgrade turbos or a big turbo GT2/X50 car. It should be around $1000 for a NA with a gain of 10-22 hp (higher number if adding an intake at the same time). You are probably talking to Autoscope since they are the only GIAC certified dealer in Dallas, but if they don't know which upgrade you sould have; I wouldn't put a lot of confidence in them doing it right.
There are a lot of good posts if you do a search about HP gains. For a non turbo, gains are very moderate from exhaust, chips, etc...a supercharger seems to be the only way to add a material amount of HP. I sometimes wish I had more, but will likely keep the engine as is...enjoy the new car and keep analyzing things that sound too good to be true.
Sure the gains are more noticable, especially with throttle response. Obviously flashing the car (C2/4)is not going to all of a sudden throw your head back when you get on it, but it definetly gives it a nice little boost. Considering what limited performance options there are for power on a C2/4, it is not a bad gain.
It would take power (on the 3.4L) to about 320hp, or roughly the same as the 996 3.6L. A 997S makes 355hp. A standard 997 makes about 325.
thanks for the reply. I'll do alittle more research and decide whether or not it's worth the extra grand.
About researching, isn't this thread about GIAC HP gains? why can't I ask
