Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So this may be obvious to most but I thought i would post for the idiots like me...if any exist... Was in a hurry to make a very importantdate with the wife...my plane was late...lost the car in the airport parking lot...and once inside fuel gauge was near the bottom...hurried around to find a gas station and filled up (obviosly rather hastilly)...and jumped on the higway...to call my driving spirited would be an understatement (you see the date was for a birthing class and a very pregnant wife is nothing to mess with)... Twenty miles down the road and at a high rate of speed the check engine light comes on..."drive to dealer" it says ...so I do... get there and service rep...opens the fuel fill door....click click click.... then proceeds to tell me...."i'll hook it up to the computer and check the code...But if it was just a loose gas cap...you will be charged $125.00" I thouhgt he was joking but he was dead serious... in the end thats all it was....although I refused to pay the 125....(I kind of went way over his head )....While I was there I did notice a leak at the RMS...so the timing was not bad.... Missed the birthing calss...found out about an rms leak and learned a valuable lesson Click.Click,Cick.....

POST 2Original post

Well, that was not as bad as a 993 owner who forgot to put his gas cap back on... And during a spirited driving right after gas came out of the gas filler hole and spilled gas all over the road and almost caused himself to loose control and crash....... But the CEL didn't come up during this incident, nor there was any leaky RMS.

POST 3Original post

Same story for the oil filler cap in the engine compartment.

POST 4Original post

This is just wrong!!! Glad you figured it out but that is total BS that a stealer has to charge that $$ to hhok up a cable, read and clear the codes takes like less than 3 minutes.

POST 5Original post

Tell the dealer that you will pay the fee and forget about it . . . until you are ready to purchase another vehicle, at which time this memory will come back with stunning clarity.

POST 6Original post

Amazing! Considering that this has happened many times with my wife's Volvo when the gas jockey doesn't click it and the CEL light comes on. The Volvo dealer, dutifully resets it without any hassles or charges and usually gives the car a complimentary car wash; that car cost less than half the price of the P-car! Great way for your dealer to build advocacy and loyalty with clients.

POST 7Original post

Screw them, I would have driven the car through the showroom window before paying that. I pulled into a dealer one time without an appointment because my rear passenger brake light and lense had water in it. Dealer, asked me to wait a minute, ripped out the old one, installed a brand new one and asked me to sign a piece of paper... I gave the guys 20 bucks for lunch and was on my way. That's how it should be.

POST 8Original post

That is how it should be. I pulled into a Pdealer in Vegas with a noisy rear brake. They took it round back, pulled the warped brake shield out of the way, and sent me on my happy way to the Silver State. Unfortunately, I only had $10 to leave as a token of thanks.

POST 9Original post

I remember years ago the family drivng our Saab 900 on a trip. 2 hours from home the car starts intrmittantly quitting. Starts afer sitting for a while. Dad gets it to the only Saab Dealer in MPLS. The tech spends 3 hours and 2 test drives chasing down a loose fuel pump ground. The dealer treats my mother and I to lunch and keeps us entertained while this is going on. NO charge. Dad tipped the tech $20 bucks or so. 1. I realize that this was probably 20 years ago and things have changed. 2. This was way above and beyond by the dealer. 3. We had not purchased the car there and didn't live anywhere near this dealer. 4. I personally have purchased 3 cars from this dealer. (not Saabs to funky for me) 5. I still remember this 20 years later. Experiences like this will make "raving" customers (in a good way). This seems to be lost on most dealers I've visited in the past many years, especially German Car dealers. The only one that seems to have it right is Lexus.

POST 10Original post

My independent mechanic does not charge me a thing for hooking up the PST2 and reading codes, clearing warning lights, or programming for such things as the airbag deactivation bar. He just walks out to the parking lot, wham bam, I'm gone. Nor does he charge me if I need an oil drain seal or somesuch thing or to borrow a tool when engaged in my own maintenance. His (correct) assumption is that i will be back when I need to spend serious money for real work. Its a nice relationship. Over the years, I have spent thousands there. Heck, even the Porsche dealer charged less than $50 to program my car for 2 new keys. Your dealer must be a real winner.

POST 11Original post

Riad: what dealer was that??? Agree with Kim, a mechanic is much more interested in building a relationship than a p-car dealer... and when you really need them, you will be there. Ross
