I purhcased two items through a shop and had them installed on my 2002 Porsche C2 996.

I am not a mechanic but this shop was recommended by the Porsche dealer that I purchased my car from and the guys there seem knowledgable and honest by speaking to them.

I have run the car for about 3 weeks and just noticed it (I know, should have looked earlier).

If you want to keep it looking like a mirror buy one set for the garage and one for the car.

Just purchased a 2002 996 and purchased and had installed, through a shop near my area, fabspeed headers and mufflers. Have a question, the headers have a stamp on it that says "Tomei Extreme" and the mufflers seem to be dull (not shiny like in the picture on the Fabspeed website). I have run the car for about 3 weeks and just noticed it (I know, should have looked earlier). So my question is:
Is the "Tomei Extreme" stamp what should be on the FabSpeed headers?
Is it normal for the mufflers loose their shine that quickly?
Just want to make sure I didn't get used parts or anything like that.

That does not sound right...my fabspeed setup says "maxflow" or something like that. I would do a search. Does your receipt from the shop say fabspeed exhaust?
Yes. Receipt says FabSpeed stainless steel headers and max-flo exhaust. I did a search on the internet and couldnt find anything for Tomei headers for Porsche 996.
Are you mufflers still shiny (as in the pictures on the fabspeed website). Mine are dull and just wondering if that is normal after only 3 weeks. Tips are dull too. Just worried I might have gotten swindled and had used parts installed.
Are you taliking headers or exhaust (mufflers)? The posts here seem to confuse the two. The headers will lose their shine after use (unless you do some type of high temp. treatment)...this is just natural. I have no idea about your particular headers though. Do they look like the fabspeed (shape and size)?
304 stainless steel will develope an oxide when exposed to elevated temperatures. At around 600F the steel will start to change to a light gold color. The higher the temp the darker the color. Is this bad, no! You are seeing the result of a layer of chrome oxide forming on the surface. Chrome oxide is very stable and is a good thing. If you want to keep it looking like a mirror buy one set for the garage and one for the car.
We would all be better served if the vendors would build the systems from T321 and put the cost of polishing into the material upgade. T321 is a much better choice for exhaust systems.
Sorry - my original posts might have been confusing. Hopefully this is clearer. I purhcased two items through a shop and had them installed on my 2002 Porsche C2 996.
First item was fabspeed headers. These are the items that have a stamp on them that say Tomei Expreme. They are sill shiny but just questioning why they dont say Fabspeed. My receipt indicates fabspeed stainless steel headers.
Then second item was Fabspeed max-flow mufflers. These do say fabspeed on it but is very dull and not shiny like the picutres on the fabspeed website. As this was purchased and installed only three weeks ago I am just wondering if it is normal to be this dull this quickly or could I have gotten used parts?
I realize I should have looked closely as soon as I picked up the car but my fault for not. Was just too excited to have my new car and unfotunately didnt pay attention to this (believe me wont ever happen again).
As I stated, I will call the dealer on monday but just hoping someone else has fabspeed headers and mufflers and can help me out with my question.

If the mufflers have a dull gray look they may be fabricated from what is know in the industry as a 2B finish. This is a standard finish in stainless. It is perfectly adequate for an exhaust. Why anyone would want a polished exhaust system under a car is totally beyond me. It's an exhaust system not a coffee table!
