I'm pulling my hair out here.. about a month ago someone posted about a mod from a company that has a one touch module so that you push and hold the key fob button and it activates the cab top.
I can't find the thread and can't find the site on google..
Anybody know what it is?
TIA
Keith
Wilhemy IT. I have both the Smart Top and Remote top.

I started a group buy thread several months ago...full of planty of info in this thread. I wouldn't expect you to get the deal we got without a group buy but at least the thread has ALOT of good info:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/218854-smart-top-group-buy-done-review-tips-inside-by-don-w.html
deputydog95 - I nstalled the Smartop this fall and it is great. Allows you to open and close the top when moving up to 25 (or 30 I forget the exact speed). Also one touch up and down rather than holding the switch and you can raise the rear windows with the top down. The install is pretty simple, just have to get to the control module under the cover where the top stows. Then it plugs in where the harness normally plugs in, the harnes then plugs into the module. They provide great instructions. 30 mins or so. I got it when they were having a sale for $269.00, but I think it is $299.00 now. Check the Renntech special, I think the offer a discount to members.
I got the remotetop just before Xmas and haven't installed it yet as I already had my hardtop on. Will put it on this spring. Looking forward to being able to open and close the top with the key/remote. This is a standard in Europe. The best news here (for me at least) was when they first released the Remoteop, the had an auction on ebay and I got the one they offered without a reserve for only $139.00. Can't beat that. I haven't seen them offer it on ebay again.
WOW! I just looked at their website and the smartop is up to $319.00 amd the remotetop is $299.00. Great product by the price seems to be creeping up. Another group buy might be a good idea.
I had pretty good luck organizing the autoginuity group buy recently. I'll make a phone call over to wilhemy it and see what they can do for us. Looks like we may be able to get enough people. I can post over at a couple other forums too. I'll let you guys know what I find out this afternoon. If they agree to it, I'll start a whole new thread for the GB.
waiting for germany to call me tomorrow. i'll keep you guys posted. their rep called me today, but he can't authorize a group buy. i should have more info by tomorrow afternoon. without pressing him, they really don't take a lot of money off for GB's. I'll go to work on him when I get him on the phone
Dog....what kind of offer did he give you? PM me the details we can go from there since I have already done this with them. I would be glad to help (again
).
what happened with the group buy? i might be in for a smarttop for a 2003 boxter. The wifes b-day is coming up.
i bought a smarttop and a remote top for my 996 last year. love em. and at the time they were cheeper. my guy at the garage said that the prices were going to go up, too. i should have bought all i needed last year.
so, Dog, what did you hear? what's the deal? did they come down on the price?
essentially we need to buy 10 units of each product to pull off the group. so you can't guy one or the other to get the discount. so essentially, when we reach ten on one product, the discount kicks in. same deal goes for both products. the discount is going to be $30 off. not exactly half price or anything, but better than nothing.
Okay. where do we stand right now? how many do we have so far? have you been posting in other forums?
I am not a member of any clubs, so I wouldn't be much help. But, maybe the others.....???
buzz
i haven't posted anywhere else. trying to gauge what kind of interest we have here first. bottom line is we need to get 10 of each product and we get $30 off. so basically if you buy both, you'll get $60 off your total. it's a lame discount if you ask me. 10% off isn't really that impressive for selling that many units. we can still do it if there are enough people.
You really need to chat with Sven. He is a really nice guy. Maybe he can tell you why it is going up in price so much from just a few months back. Is it costing them more to make these products or are they not selling very well and had to increase costs? I am confused. I thought they were pricey when I did the last group buy and got a pretty good deal but I saw that the cost has gone up again. Yes it is a great product but I think they are starting to get a bit overpriced.
Not sure if you checked out my group buy thread but the deal I got was:
$249 996 ($259 shipped)
$189 986 ($199 Shipped)
**S&H was $10 ($5 less than the $15 per unit they normally charge).**
Hey Edward! Love the top. Allows me the convenience of opening/closing the top with a single push of the button. As for the RemoteTop I think that is a waste. IMHO, you should have one or the other. And for me, I like the SmartTop better. But at the $249 price point I was able to make the purchase a little more justifiable but at $300 no frickin way. Personally I think this product should be no more than about $199 everyday price and about $175 group buy price.
The install was less than 5 mintues for me and requires NO mods whatsoever. No cutting, no splicing, no anything. True plug and play. And should I ever sell the car (which I won't) I could remove it and the car is as is before installed!
Dell, as always, your advice is invaluable! Thanks a ton.
Ddog, if we can get a group buy at Dell's prices ($249), put me down for the SmartTop, else I'll stick it out and see what happens.
I love both the SmartTop, for the reasons Dell states .... AND the RemoteTop ... for allowing me to open the top as I approach the car in the parking lot, and close it as I walk away (or even from inside Starbucks if it starts to rain). Its all in the eye of the beholder, I guess. I've tended to do fewer of the cosmetic mods that a lot of guys here love, but I'm sure they each think each mod was a terrific improvement. To each his own.
As for price, there seems to be an advantage to jumping when you first see their products ( I first spotted each on Ebay). I paid $249 a year ago for the SmartTop and $269 several months ago for the RemoteTop (shipping included). It appears to be just the opposite of the usual premium one pays for being a "early adapter".
Kim is spot on. The best price was in the early days. Finally, us early adopters were rewarded. Still think they are WAY overcharging for this product though.
I am really happy with my smarttop and remotekey, bought them in a bundle with a helping toolkit. It takes about 10 minutes to install both in my boxster.
I paid 500$ for both - really cheap compared to other modifications like chiptuning or bodykits and other modifications.
I'm in for the SmartTop... no wait... oh sh*t, never mind... I have a coupe!
I just know that one of these days I am going to be able to participate in a Group Buy!
best they will do is $40 offeach of their products. they recognize the price increases, but there isn't much more they will do. thsi will still require the purchase of ten of each of their units. this is about as good as it's going to get as far as discounts from them.
Deputydog
As of now I am still in for both, make sure they are including the installation tool as well. They charge $25 with individual purchase but include it at no charge for combination purchase. Just want to make sure that the discount does not negate free tool with combo purchase
guys, do me a favor. let's make a list like when i did the autoenginuity buy.
list your name and the product that you want to buy next to it.
however, cut and paste whoever else is on the list with yours, so i can have one big list. let's see where we're at here, and then i'll do some posts on the boxster and 6speed forums.

deputydog95 smart top
Just to be clear, the "installation tool" is simply a 3/8 drive socket wrench equipped with an E-12 Torx socket. That socket by itself is available in stores and on the net .... to use with your own (presumably) ratchet.
The E-12 (external torx) socket is necessary for removal of seat rails .... which makes the installation of the RemoteTop (key activated remote) much easier. The tool is not associated with the installation of the SmartTop.
just to finalize the offer.
$40 off each product, provided there are ten people to purchase it. however, it can't be a combination of products. there has to be at least ten of a particular product to get the price reduction.
shipping is free.
if you purchase both, you get $80 off and the install tool for free.
wump: i appreciate you scanning through the posts, but i'd almost rather have the people that are truly interested repost to show their commitment. i know the thread will get a longer, but we'lll have a more accurate count of the number of people ready to purchase with credit cards in hand
i have the unit that goes in the car, i will take a remote. please let me know who will confirm this back to me. Is it one new key to use for all or a unit that hangs on the key chain?

A little understandable confusion.
The RemoteTop module is installed under the driver's seat of the 996. in line with the plug going into the alarm module.
It then enables you to
use the existing key you now have
.
When
locking
, you simply hold the button down a couple of seconds after the doors lock ... until the top begins to move. At that point, you may release the button, and watch the top complete its UP cycle, followed by the raising of the windows.
When
unlocking
, you simply hold the button down a couple of seconds after the doors unlock ... until the top begins to move. At that point, you may release the button, and watch the windows go down, followed by the top completing its down cycle,.
During either cycle, pressing your key button again before the cycle is complete will stop the top where it is. Another press will then reverse top direction.
thanks for the clarification...now i understand, what is the install like under the seat? plug and play and easy to unplug something and just replug? do they offer a diagram for the install process?
thanks again and count me in for sure for the remote top unit, i have the main one that goes under the back roof deck.
Ted
Ted,
Complete instructions are included (or else, I downloaded them .... can't remember).
Its plug and play: unplug main security harness, insert the module, plug harness into the module. They describe a method for working with the seat in place, but, take my word for it, its far easier to remove seat bolts and tilt driver's seat rearward, out of the way. Then, it takes just a few minutes.
After installation, there are a couple of programming options, then you're up and running.
