This is strictly used for locking/unlocking the car with setting the alarm.

I ordered one from eBay that had the code and used the PIWIS3 clone I have to add the new transmitter.

All he needed was the car and the key and he used some kind of transponder.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Recently purchased a 2004 C4S Cab.. I have two keyfobs. I changed batteries.. one is working fine, the other just blinks red when pushing the buttons but car doesn't respond. Both keys work to start the car, but the one keyfob not working. I have read the electronics in the keyfob are probably bad. I have also looked if there is a way to reprogram the keyfobs without going to Porsche. I have seen some steps on renntech but not sure it works. Do I have to buy a new keyfob from suncoast or pelican and have it reprogramed by Porsche? Any suggestions welcome
You just need PIWIS3 and a new transmitter with the 24 character code. I ordered one from eBay that had the code and used the PIWIS3 clone I have to add the new transmitter.
You will also need the IPAS codes from Porsche, that you should be able to get from a local dealer, or sign up for a PPN account at Porsche (it's free) to obtain them.
Use the PIWIS3 for $75 thread to get the hardware you need for PIWIS. I can help you if you get stuck.
Ok. Thanks so much for the info. So a few questions. Is PIWIS3 just an OBD cable or is it both a cable and a hardware scanner tool or just the scanner? I have Audi cars also that I have the VAGCOM scanner cable that has software on my PC.
I assume the PIWIS3 for 75 is another thread?
So is this the list of things I need to get?
1. PIWIS3 not sure if cable or scanner?
2. New keyfob transmitter or just a transmitter?
3. IPAS codes
is that correct?
I was in the same boat. Did the above steps and now have a fully functional key.
$75 PIWIS 3 thread:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...only-75-a.html
PIWIS3 is software + interface. The physical interface plugs into the OBDII port and to a laptop via USB.
I believe you'll need part # 99663724442 (full keyfob with the 24-digit code)
IPAS codes from the dealership (or apparently via PPN)
I used
this video
as a reference when programming my car. They're not using a PIWIS but the functionality seems to be the same. Play around in the PIWIS3 simulation mode to get a hang of it.
Thanks for picking up my slack and getting that info.
We need to help each other out so we can keep these cars going without bankrupting us through the dealers.
I agree.. we definitely don't need the dealers if they are to charge us 1000% markup.. I am waiting on my PIWIS hardware. I will sign-up for a PPN account to get the codes.. As soon as I get my laptop configured with the PIWIS and get the account, I will reach back out here to you guys for all the help. Thanks again.
I was able to get it to work with the $75 PIWIS. It was very straightforward and certainly does not take the 1-hour labor the dealer quoted me.
It will be under alarm system, then go to learning function. Youll have to program the new fob under transponder key and remote using the same IPAS learning code. There are 4 key slots for each. You can delete old keys if you want.
Barely took me 15 minutes beginning to end. I ordered a fob from Suncoast and swapped my old key blade over. Now I have a perfectly working key. The fob was $400+, but still cheaper than the $800 my local dealership was quoting me.
As far as spare blade goes, Keysinthepost appears to be out of business. I have not gotten any responses from them despite multiple tries. There are services on eBay that will cut you a spare blade based off of picture you take. It wasnt a perfect match to the original key when comparing side by side, but the key works fine on the door and ignition. I attached it to my old fob/transponder to make my spare key.
So I just got PIWIS 3 and 4 through this great guy online who sets up everything for you on an existing laptop. Can PIWIS read the existing fob for the codes or do I still have to obtain the IPAS codes to reprogram the other keyfob?
So there has been some debate on how to get the IPAS codes for my VIN#. I haven't tried but is the dealer going to just give me the IPAS codes for my VIN#? I thought you need to be a certified Porsche dealer or repair shop to get an PPN account?
If I get a replacement keyfob it comes with a 24 character code + I need the IPAS codes? I have PIWIS 4 I can check under the simulation mode.
I havent tried PPN but two dealers in my area were (Seattle) were happy to pull the IPAS codes for me. I just needed to take the cars title and my license to verify ownership.
Yes, you will need the 23 character code for the key fob + the IPAS learning code.
So I don't have the original 23 character code, is this obtained through PIWIS ? and I just need the IPAS codes from dealer?
Further, I have 2 button keyfob..which has the unlock/lock buttons and the frunk unlock. am I able to go to a 3 button keyfob to program the 3rd button which is the engine hood? that button is next to the drivers seat but can I code that onto the keyfob remote using IPAS codes and PIWIS?
Still looking for where to get the 24 character code from the keyfob. I dont have the original white key tag. Does anyone know how I obtain those codes? Ill get the IPAS codes from dealer but what about the 24 character one?
I think there's still some confusion. You need a new keyfob which will come with a tag that has the 24 character code. There is no easy way to get the 24 character code for a keyfob if you don't have the original tag. If you bought a keyfob without the tag, it's useless.
thanks ncster. How does Porsche dealer program if they get you the iPAS codes tied to VIN# can they provide the 24 character code? I found a guy that advertised on YouTube and for $50 he can retrieve the 24 character code. He communicates through WhatsApp.
Likely a scam. Theres no way to retrieve the 24 character code for the key fob as far as I know. Youll have to buy a new fob, which will come with the code in a tag. There are some fob circuit boards on eBay for ~$150 that comes with the code. I think a fellow Rennlister said they work, but I have not personally tried that. Those circuit boards do not come with transponder chips. I ended up getting mine from Suncoast Porsche for about $400.
thanks. If I have one keyfob working but doesnt have 24 character code either and I buy a new fob, and I program using PIWIS. Do I need the code also for the keyfob that works? or I can program them individually?
You do not need to have the codes for the old fobs to add the new one. There are 4 slots available to add for the car.
The transponder (unlocks immobilizer to start the engine) and fob (remote to lock/unlock doors) are programmed separately. You dont need any other codes besides your IPAS learning code to program the transponder. You need the learning code for the car and the 24 character code for the fob to program the remote function.
ok thanks so much. I think I got it. 24 char code for remote, IPAS codes for transponder. So the one of two keyfobs I have starts the car but the remote part doesnt work. So that means I need the 24 character code to use into PIWIS to reprogram it for the remote function. Correct? I would only need the IPAS codes to reprogram the transponder to start the car. Im going to dealer with my title to get the IPAS codes for my VIN. I found someone online that give me the 24 character code for my fob. If it works I told him I would tell everyone on this forum about his services.
I just went to a locksmith, and copied both the key and the circuit. All he needed was the car and the key and he used some kind of transponder. Try your local locksmith, it might be easier. It is a common key system, easy to copy.
Sorry if this is obvious or already discussed, but how does one sign up for a PPN account without being in the auto repair business? The registration process asks for business name and website address.
Thanks
Can someone advise how to get the IPAS codes once I have a PPN account? I successfully obtained a login but cant find where to obtain the codes in the system. Thanks
Try this:
https://pcss.porsche.com/static/port...earch/vin/info
After signing in, click Vehicle at the top.
Enter the VIN
On the right hand bar, you should see
Show Code Information
If you don't, click vehicle until it populates. Then you should be able to access the codes. It should look like the attached picture.
Thanks. However my account doesnt seem to display the code information. See pic below. Do I need to do something to get this info? Can someone send me my IPAS code? Thanks
I'm looking to get my 99 reprogrammed as well as my keys are very intermittent. I had them work very briefly after putting in fresh batteries but have since stopped. I see the red light on the key but they are very unresponsible to lock and unlock. If anyone can help that would be great - VIN

Here are a couple tricks from Porsche you can try. Hope this helps!
The Remote control's computer chip has frozen or crashed. Porsche was initially swamped with warranty replacements of the key remotes. They issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) explaining how to reset a remote control which had crashed or frozen:
Remove the battery from the key remote
Insert the battery the wrong way round, flip it, so the writing is facing the other way. Do not worry, this will not damage the remote.
Press the unlock button continuously for sixty seconds.
Flip the battery back around the right way.
Try the remote control again. If this works you can be sure that the remote had crashed/frozen and you successfully reset it.
The Remote control has become out of sync with the alarm control unit. The process to re-sync the remote key head is as follows:
Put the key manually into the door lock. It does not matter if it is already locked or unlocked.
Press the lock/unlock button on the fob and hold it in.
Turn the key to the lock position and back to the middle position five times and return to the middle position one last time.
Let go of the lock/unlock button.
Press and hold in the lock/unlock button again.
Turn the key to the unlock position and back the middle position five times and return the the middle position again.
Let go of the lock/unlock button.
Press the lock/unlock button in again and hold it in.
Turn the key to the lock position and back to the middle position five times and return to the middle position again.
Take the key out of the door lock and try the buttons. If this works you can be sure that the remote was out of sync and you successfully reset it.

I received my credentials also for PPN and I don't have the code information option either see screenshot. I reached out to PPN support to ask why.. but wondering why? If you want to download manuals or parts info I'm seeing you need a subscription of some kind is that correct?
I'm no pro on PPN, but yes you would need a subscription for the tech data. What works for me is clicking the
Vehicle
tab at the top numerous times the
Code Info
option appears on the right. Sometimes it is two clicks, sometimes three.
That's the best I got.
Hi, I am also trying to program a new key to my 04 c4s cab.
I was able to get w key with the programming code, however the two dealerships near me are refusing to give me the IPAS to my car even when I brought my vehicle registration with me.
Does the PPN route still work?
Yes, the PPN you can sign-up for an account and they should give you the IPAS codes. The dealership should do that.. they did for me but I also got them from my local dealership.
https://ppn.porsche.com/
is the site and to register.
I also have the PIWIS software to re-code the fobs in combination with the IPAS codes.. The one thing I couldn't do which I am working on is how to recode the fob if you don't have the original 24 character code that comes with the keyfob..
I was under the assumption that if the 24 length code was lost then its nearly impossible to program it. I was told this by many people so I ended up giving up and reaching out to a friend who works at porsche to get me a discount. Still had to pay around 200$ thou 😵
Would anyone who still have access to PPN to get IPAS code be willing to grab mine for me?
I am attempting to sign up for PPN but Im still waiting for registration to get approved
Just went to local specialized porsche shop. Was told that they are unable to order only remote or circuit board and have to get full key. Quote for everything was $830 lol
So this way that is discussed here is definitely seem to be the way to go. Ive seen couple circuit boards on ebay and seem like there are several under $200.
Seems like before doing anything else, I need to get IPAS for my car. I'll try that website mentioned above, if anyone know where to get it for free or cheap price please let me know.
Over here in Greece, you can go to any locksmith and they have the tools to copy the key. It costs 50eur.
I believe in your country the technology is there as well. Forget ipas and other codes, the system is typical VW. All they need is the working key and the car.
There is also a thread about 6 months old about this same discussion.
This one is a good read:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...are-key-5.html
So I provided the IPAS codes over to you
@avg996owner
.
I am working with someone to get the circuit boards for the 996 keyfobs. They come with the 24 character code needed along with your IPAS codes to program these using PIWIS 3 or 4. I have done this several times with my car. I was able to program 3 keys to my car the 996's allow for 4 slots to program up to 4 keys. I am not sure if any of you know how it works but there are 3 parts to the 996 keyfobs and two sets of codes.
IPAS codes which can be obtained by Porsche Dealer or PPN.. These are all the codes for each of our cars that includes the radio codes, immobilizer codes etc..
Here are the 3 parts
1) Keyblade - it has to be laser cut for the lock itself
2) Immobilizer Pill - Requires IPAS code to program in PIWIS. This is the RFID tiny glass pill that sits inside the keyfob next to the circuit board. This pill is what speaks to the immobilizer underneath the drivers seat to unlock the ignition to be able to start the car.
3) Lock/Unlock Circuit Board - This is the circuit board inside the keyfob that takes the battery. This is strictly used for locking/unlocking the car with setting the alarm. each circuit board comes with a 24 character code that is given when the key is new or you get a new board. When programming this to your car you need the IPAS code for your VIN # plus the 24 character code that you need to apply into the PIWIS when programming
There is information all over that says once you lose the 24 character code you cannot retrieve it in anyway. I found a person that is able to retrieve and revive those circuit boards. I am working with him to try and get this setup so that I can provide the codes to 996 users for a more respectable price than what the dealers charge. The dealers won't or can't give you the 24 code if lost they say you have to replace it. I can also get new boards with 24 character code as well as the immobilizer pills. I am working on trying to build out a website and all of this to do..
Is there a way that you could get me my 996 IPAS code as well. I have been trying to get it from local dealer with no luck several times now during last year. My car VIN is: WP0ZZZ99Z1S604424. Thank you if you could do this via PM.
