Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

i definitely didn't know that, i usually just have to wipe it off, i don't drive it in the rain, i've used alot of the spray on waxes & detailers, guess i been lucky so far, but it's hard to say i won't ever buy another black car, but you said the porsche black paint is a soft paint, what does that mean & whats the do's & don't to do to your paint?

I would use the same technique on a silver car if that car was in the same condition as the 996.

Suggestion
i don't think i've ever used soap on my car, so that may be one reason it hasn't had the swirls, but i was lookin to buy the porter cable 7424 xp, but i guess if i didn't use it correctly that could definitely screw up the paint job, you see alot of how to's on youtube, but alot of that crap doesn't work like they say it does either.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Good morning Rennlist,
My company recently became a sponsor on the site, and this thread will be an introduction to our work. Hope everyone enjoys.

A couple of questions:
1) Can you remove a good % of swirl marks without color sanding? I don't want my car's clearcoat to be thinner.
2) Do you come out to Corona/Riverside area?
1) The picture below shows a 3 stage polishing process, and no wet sanding was involved. The car's owner had the same request to not color sand, and we were able to remove about 98% of the swirling. If you look at the picture closely, the right, polished side shows a few faint scratches remained. Some scratches are too deep to remove without color sanding, so it's up to the owner whether or not they want me to go a step further and color sand. Keep in mind though that when we color sand, we generally will not remove more than 8 microns worth of clear coat, and that's out of a total 150 micron clear coat layer.
2) Yes, we do travel to Riverside. If the job takes more than a day, which is the norm considering the amount of time we put into each job, we would need overnight lodging chosen at the owner's discretion and expense.
Thank you for the kind words. We've traveled as far away as Calgary, Alberta Canada to detail vehicles. If you're interested in our services, we're always willing to accommodate customer's requests, no matter the distance:

Very nice job on those cars...How many stages are required to get those results on a black car? Do you do the same technique for a silver car?
Do you guys do interior work as well or its just body only?
Excellent pictures and excellent job once more.
The latter part of your statement is dead-on.
How long it lasts is dependent on how well the car is treated after we restore it. If you wash the car yourself with proper technique, you won't need a full-bore detail for at least two years. If you let your average car wash take care of the car, the detail will last up until you drive into the car wash.
There's 3 stages: heavy-grade polish, medium-grade polish, and jeweling. I would use the same technique on a silver car if that car was in the same condition as the 996. Thank you for the compliments as well.
i see all these posts about black porsche cars having problems with swirl marks, i guess i was lucky with the previous owner, i haven't ever noticed any problems with mine, how do you get them, is it because the person waxing or buffing it doesn't know what their doing, is a black porsche different than any other black car, cause their all hard to keep clean.
That's a seriously good job... Looks great!
Good washing technique and maintaining a good coat of wax/sealant goes a long way to keeping the paint job looking good...
Well, when i bought my car it looked good (no swirls) until the dealers "best" detailer touched it and it was sooo swirled i alot didnt want to buy the car. Being a detailer in the past i knew you can get them out. I actually bought the "black box" from the auto store by turtle wax. It was a 3 step system and it did a very good job. But after a couple washes it was back to looking crappy. UGH..
Its a never ending battle between the dust that collects on it and the rain and swirls...
my black 996's should have been advertised "swirl marks over black" instead of "black on black". Its amazing what a good detail job can do. I always foam gun and pressure wash on a wide arc and its held up ok for the past yr but I think Im done with black after this one
its stays dust/pollen free for a max of 3 hours after a wash.
Years ago a had a concours condition '64 E-Type Jag coupe in black. after a thourough wash and dry it looked amazing for about an hour or less. In '97 I bought a new F150 Flairside PU 4x4 in black, that too with the aero new body style looked awsome. I noticed when I got home from the dealership, less than 15 miles later, my new truck which looked fantastic less than 30 minutes ago, needed a wash and detail.
I too, am done with black.
I live near a lot of trees and in the summer washing and drying if I was really quick - I could get it into the garage before it needed washing again.
I love black though - might try one again someday but I will be very very picky about the paint condition prior to me buying it and will clear bra for sure!
