Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am still having "shifting into 3rd" issues, and one day I will put the original back in, for a baseline, then reinstall the 997 shifter, and decide which is better.
Yeah, its an ongoing process but its rewarding to keep it running in top shape. Every year I pick a couple of refresh or upgrade projects to do to spread the cost out. But its worthwhile.
Thats the plan! Next winter will be all suspension arms, FVD oil sump, and other random stuff, headers, and fister mufflers.
Probably headlight restore and Adrian retrofit as well.
Yeah, Paul.we gotta stop meeting like this! Come to Idaho and drive here for hours and hours and not be in the same place twice!
What length of wheel studs did you put in? Are you doing any wheel spacers I have 10mm front and 15 mm back. Curious. ALSO, I have a set of "air-cooled" aluminum lug nets, from my A-C days. They don't weigh hardly anything. Maybe measure the thickness of the "boss" or whatever it is called, to determine wheel stud length? I want to do this for my '04 C4S with the aluminum lug nuts.
Mine is a PTS dark gray metallic. Not my first choise of color, but the car just "grew" on me so it stays. After all, only about 12200 C4S coupes made by Porsche, so they are not seen very often.
Congrats on a silver C4S! BTW, FWIW, when I posted the "popcorn" deal, there were ZERO PHOTOS and no lists, like we see here today.
cheers!
YMMV
Wow, she must feel like new at this point! Good on you. When you get tired of working in that little shop, come on over and I got a '99 C2 with a 10x25 container or a carport you can do all the work you want to, lol
That's awesome work dude! I can tell you are already in it for the long run!!!!!!!
Hi -
Congrats on the purchase. Ive got the same car. I do t want to be a downer, but before you spend another couple grand, have you bore scoped the engine yet?
If you have, or if it turns out favorable, Id recommend a deep sump, and underdrive pulley. Oh, and Gundo hack your mufflers.
Not yet, I did order a borescope. We will check it out. Is what it is if thats the case. Yea I already planned on FVD Sump, Fister Mufflers as well, and UD Pulley.
Great work! Thanks for all the pictures; this will be a great reference for me going forward.
Two things, first, how the heck did you get the old seat belt adjusters off! I have the same GT3 to put on, but I cannot figure the darn thing out. The diagrams do not give me enough detail. Failed mechanical engineer here.
Also, I love the work on the steering wheel. That is one area that really disappoints me on the car. Not sure I want to keep the triangle. Been thinking of changing to the later round-center version. Too many hard-part things to work on first, but your work makes the wheel look so much better.
Greetings from NC! Great job on the restoration. I have the same car with 34K more miles. Such a good all weather car .... I need to do many of the same things, but I'm too busy driving it in our southern weather.
Message sent to ya. I have '04 C4S PTS dark gray metallic.
Semi-grew up around Eagle River, sent there in summers. Hated mosquitos, but fishing was fantastic. I haven't found or seen a single mosquito here on my ID property, altitude or something else. They are down by the Snake River, but not up here. Strange, but OK with me.
YMMV

Just Need To Fill/Bleed Coolant, Fill Oil, Fill Power Steering Fluid/Bleed, Flush/Bleed Brake Fluid, Bed Brake Pads.
Its my garage/shop 😂😂😂😂
Got everything I need its not big 10x20 but climate controlled with power and lights. I have a Quickjack lift and hydraulic table for supporting the engine.
Its a tight squeeze on the sides but I make do.

I am probably going to banished for this opinion, but I say NO to louder "Ricky Racer" exhausts. I LIKE the quiet (relatively speaking) of stock 996 exhaust. The car draws enough attention without getting obnoxious loud, my opinion. Maybe 200 cel CATS don't make more noise, so OK, Gundo-Hack makes more noise, No Deal for me.
There is enough sound going on in the car that I am fine with it, and I don't need a 8000 rpm "screamer" to attract unwanted (LEO) attention. I am perfectly fine the way noise is now and when you "give it the beans" as one might say, it still sounds great. Great at that moment. All the time, no deal forget it. My C4S can be a brute at times, carefully chosen, I might add, but otherwise be civilized, go under the radar, and live with it.
I have not seen ANY post that said the 996 is loud enough as is, or someone who has a "different sound opinion". Noise doesn't make power. Long ago in the aircooled-days, I was passed by a 996 (me on super-light road bicycle) and I was amazed at how quiet it was. I always remember that particular moment. No aircooled p-car could match that level of quiet and ultimate performance. My current C4S could run circles around my "total-mod-trick" 930 without any effort. I think there are others who have the same opinion/view, and consider XYZ-Zoomie exhaust a waste of money and more importantly, peace in driving a fantastic car.
Such is life.
Just my opinions,
YMMV
Hey Shadesbro,
That is AWESOME!
This is your FIRST Porsche???
Wow!
That is impressive work and due-diligence (research).
I hope you enjoy this C4S forever!
I ALWAYS wanted a 2001 Turbo, ever since I saw my first one in Monaco in July 2001
I remember because it was July in the South of France, JUST before everything changed
No, not covid.

That was such a beautiful car!
But I couldn't afford it (then).
A few years ago, I "almost bought" a couple of 01-04 Turbos in the $50-$70K price range (back when they were "cheap"..) but didn't have the garage space for another Porsche.
Recently, I saw that the 996s were "fully depreciated" and almost as unwanted as the 1974-77 G body 911s were, after the 3 liter SCs came out
(a MUCH better car, IMO)
But I drove my sisters 1975 911S for a week in 1985, and WAS HOOKED!
I needed one.
So I bought a 1974 911 2.7 in 1986.
I still have it.
It is noisy, has no passenger comfort (not even air-conditioning), and it has a problem EVERY TIME that I start it (not often enough?), right now it is is a CIS fuel leak.
But I love it.
It is a Porsche go cart.
It is SO MUCH fun to drive!
Sorry I digress.
When the 996s were "almost free" (2-3 years ago) I decided to buy a silver 996, to put a loud exhaust, fiberglass flares, a high aluminum wing and Martini livery on,
just to drive to Costco.
Because I could.
Then
this C4S
showed up on BAT, and I COULDN'T let it get sold for $15K,
So I bought it.
It is a delight.
Yes, it needed "some work", and I fixed the "now" problems (although NOT as much as you did...)
I have had the front bumper cover off, to clean radiators, re-route emergency cable, install mesh. I SHOULD have put 911 horns in THEN,
now it is on my "to do list".
I took the the rear bumper cover off and lowered the engine a bit to change the left cam sensor, spark plugs and rear motor mounts.
There were multiple "check engine" faults, and it turned out to be a mouse nest (and mouse urine on the relays behind the back seat!)
Since I had "nothing else to do" I bought a 997 shifter, put Function First bearings in it, then put it in.
I am still having "shifting into 3rd" issues, and one day I will put the original back in, for a baseline, then reinstall the 997 shifter, and decide which is better.
Right now, all I notice is that I can't get my 3rd gear shifts smoothly...
Oh, and it will NEVER get fiberglass flares and Martini livery, or that loud exhaust.
It is WAAAY too beautiful of a car to do that to...
Paul
THAT is frikkin hilarious!
"A desire for a loud car with a modified muffler is predicted by being a man and higher scores on psychopathy and sadism"
For the rest of you, read 996love's link (It is "doctor speak" but if you can work on Porsches, you can figure it out)
I gotta say that i like my FVD 200 cell cats and sport mufflers. Noise is under control when light on the throttle, but it sings when on the throttle, with no drone whatsoever at highway speeds.
I also like the air induction sound i get from running the IPD plenum w/ GT3 throttle body.
But I am a 23 year owner who drives with the windows down to listen to the sounds who never really uses his radio.
No judgements or worries for those that arent into exhaust/intake sounds. But it is an option.
First Porsche yes. Also I am very OCD I would say, former F-117 and F-22 crew chief. I like to know what I have touched and to ensure the torque specs are holding on everything I install.
Car looks great!
Tell me more about swapping out that flex disc! I took a peak at mine when I first got my C4S and it definitely looks worn but I havent looked at what is required to do the job yet.
Ive done a few on my BMWs with no issue but I havent looked at how to access it on the C4S.
The red "S" looks good - did you do that yourself? I don't know/wonder? if red "S" would look good on a PTS dark gray metallic.... somewhere between Atlas Gray & Aztec Gray, like maybe Cayman Island Gray or something... My car came from hot AZ-CA desert areas, so 3 sides of windows are tinted pretty dark black looking from outside. (really works to keep summer heat out) ...thoughts?
What kind of paint, etc....,
YMMV
Slight adjustments needed 1/4 front drop so its not reverse rake and 5-7mm spacers I need to test to see what would fit best without rubbing over bumps etc
Thank you very much!
It is just a custom job by DCT MS. Had him do my steering wheel, e-brake handle, shifter, etc. Plan to have him do many more things.
