Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

38 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So yesterday we went to Target (I do most of our shopping, and my daughter joins me after preschool to help me shop). We bought quite a large number of things including toilet paper and paper towels and lots of other stuff. People looked at me quite incredulously when I stuffed it all into the frunk and passenger front seat and her in the back, and drove off. Why? Never seen a daily driven 996 before? It's weird that people have so many strange assumptions about these cars and their drivers.

POST 2Original post

I agree - and that's why I take my dog with me too! cars are completely useful AND FUN! unlike those POS cars 99% of people drive - EWE!! keep up the good work confusing the masses!

POST 3Original post

Do this all the time and get similar looks. Nothing like going to Costco and jamming the car full of paper products.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The other funny thing is how people think I must have just dropped $100k on this thing. LOL - I paid less for this than you paid for your Camry. Hilarious.

POST 5Original post

+1 I love watching people's reaction when my boys get out from the back seats.

POST 6Original post

My elderly parents live a few doors down from me and I take my mom grocery shopping to the nearby Safeway. Since she needs watching as she walks (she really should have a wheelchair but refuses to use one instead prefers to use a walker) I ask for help getting her purchases to the car. It is kind of funny to watch the uninitiated walk to the rear of the car. Sure, I try to warn them beforehand to save them steps but sometimes mom has my full attention and they are at the back of the car before I know it. When I open the front trunk they want to know where the engine is. In the back where it belongs of course. I'd love to take the Boxster with its two trunks when we go shopping but mom simply can't get in and out of the car. It is too low.

POST 7Original post

RDU, everyone knows the 996 cant be used as a DD, thats why. But you are OK because of that other "cargo" you have in the the trunk, your engine wont blow up. Im referring to that quart of JG DT40 of course.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dude, you're Krazy. You noticed that!?

POST 9Original post

I get the same looks when shopping for groceries, Home Depot etc... and either stuff the passenger seat or pop the frunk. However, the funniest look I got was last weekend was meeting a few friends at the shooting range and pull up to parking lot and pull out 2 AR's and 2 handguns in their respective bags plus ammo and range bag all in passengers seat, LOL.

POST 10Original post

LOL, KRAZY JG-DT40 Police in effect!!! RDUBiker, KK got a major h@rd on when he saw that.

POST 11Original post

Uh, we regret to inform you this has been added to the Ob@$# Govt database for future confiscation purposes. (Joke, calm down Alp)

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 10316679, 10316710

My buddies and I do some clay target shooting and I'd love nothing more than to pull out my shotgun from the frunk. Seriously, what is the deal with the DT40? I know it has the added zinc and Jake recommends it...but are you serious or joking when you mention it so often? Trying to get to know you better

POST 13Original post

Wait until you get asked if you need a tow when you're just opening your frunk to put groceries in there...

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 10316760

Oil is personal just like the choice of underwear the way I see it. Other's(KK) disagree. I'd rather not open up a can of worms or beat an already beaten dead horse. Let's just say if Jake designed and built my butt, I'd be inclined to listen to his recommendations of thongs over briefs or boxers however I don't think one should be shoved down other's throats.

POST 15Original post

Well, since you brought it up. All members here really appreciate an oil thread as they are so informative about the "must use" oil for the M96.01,03 M96.04 engines. Proceed with caution. **Note to the Mod who will be here any second: Please redirect your actions to the Invius thread. That was the funniest, and most disturbing analogy of the year.

POST 16Original post

That's right along with the usual "well we know who makes the big bux ", "must be nice" and " mid life crisis?" it's a car, get over it. I usually respond, "well I can't afford an expensive car, so I had to get this POS."

POST 17Original post

Quotes source posts: 10316374, 10316768

Maybe people were looking at you funny because you were standing in a parking lot taking pics of your own frunk and passenger seat...

POST 18Original post

I paid about as much for our '02 C2 Cab as our friends paid for their 16-year-old twin daughters' new Civic EX, but no one says to them, "Oh, you must be rich!" Hey, I don't mind. I just say, "I must be!" I get a great chuckle out of people who know nothing about cars having strong opinions about...cars. "OMG, he bought a Poursh!"

POST 19Original post

I am finding a similar trend when I tell people its an all weather car. I get that its not an obvious first choice but you have to laugh when they tell you its not supposed to be driven in the winter...and of course have no real qualified reason, or first hand experience. Why not ask what makes it a good all year round car and try to learn something? People are always quick with their opinions, but rarely try to gain insight

POST 20Original post

One response is to point out that a decent 996 can be had for less than the cost of a new Kia or Hyundai. Frunk is very usable. On a porsche tour out to Radium last summer, i managed to fit a full-sized cooler in, loaded with cans of San Peligrino. The spirited driving on the way home managed to puncture one. As to passengers, my wife and I got some interesting looks driving out to the mountains with our bernese mountain dog and australian shepherd in the back seat...

POST 21Original post

I am tempted to get a personalized tag that says, YESITIS. This will answer the two most common questions I get. 1. It must be nice? Point to tag. 2. Is that thing fast? Point to tag.

I have not been able to fit my Newfie in the car yet. Had one in a 1972 911T Targa that got tons of weird looks. Pre-digital camera so not sure if i even have a picture of that moment. maggie2small.jpg

POST 23Original post

Love the pic Porrscha! My dobie's head fits perfectly out of the rear window. I just hate cleaning the slobber off the side of the car when we get home!

POST 24Original post

That is a big beautiful dog. Our Berner is a female, and small for the breed, so can curl up on one back seat, with her head resting happily on the glove box.

POST 25Original post

Just made a run to Total Wine this afternoon. Got 2 cases of vino in the Frunk (turned sideways) and another case of various "handles" on the passenger side floor board. It really is surprising how much you can fit in these cars. Thinking about changing my license plate to STNWAGN.

POST 26Original post

We use ours all the time. i used to get mulch and other supplies at lowes. It is a used car and needs to be driven.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I used to have a couple Corvette C5s and while the trunk on those were pretty sizable, I think the 996 is substantially more useful. The most important part being my daughter can ride in the back while still carrying other people and groceries or items we need.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 10316768

Or..."need a jump start?" My favorite. "Nice car, engine trouble?

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 10316374

They are looking at you funny because the average regular type person doesn't know that your engine is in the back. They don't know a 928 from a 996. They look at you even funnier when you put groceriers in the front trunk and then the rear trunk too. I think for very funny look that prompted someone to actually ask me where the engine was, I got a dozen who looked at me funny and said nothing. Watching a person put groceries into the front of car just makes some people totally confused.

POST 30Original post

Thats funny. My front bumper cover is scratched. So when I go to the grocery i ram it with the cart... Omg you should see the looks I get. One lady said something, I told her I had to turn it over to the wife next week due to our divorce and didnt care.

POST 31Original post

LOL! You might want to watch telling the wrong person that, they might come over and help "damage" it!!

POST 32Original post

I use mine to drive my son to daycare and all the kids run to the window to see the race car when they hear me pull up. The other parents are baffled

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 10320743

I used to do that but grew tired of practically begging people to believe that I'm not driving a $100k car. Finally decided to let people believe what they wanted to and I just laugh it off now. The people I don't understand are the ones driving $40k cars that look and my $20k 996 with lust while saying "some day..." or "my wife would never let me". I couldn't stand being so scared of actually living my life as some of these people seem to be.

POST 34Original post

I use my frunk's to the fullest. I've had a welder in the 996 frunk. shopping in the other DD: hauling Porsche parts:

POST 37Original post

During the spring and fall seasons, how about frunking 15 or so soccer ***** (size 5) to soccer practices/games, if you remove the spare tire, of course. On the plus side, if someone crashes heavily into your front, I would imagine they would bounce back unscathed.

POST 38Original post

Ball bags in the frunk, flexible goals in the back seat - every spring and fall for U6 & U12 soccer practices - have been doing it for years - my boys love it.
