Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Once I changed the oil it droped from warm 3k RPM at 5 bar to 3k at 4 bar and warm idle went from around 3 down to 2 bar
Leading evidence: 'Replace oil it droped' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend by my indy' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

And most of 997 / Turbos run 1.5 on M1 oil at idle speed.

Suggestion
At idle, when fully warmed up, I think normal oil pressure for the 996 should be around 1.25 - 1.5 +/-...if you are seeing 2.5 -3.0 bars you must be running molasses for oil...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I keep glancing at my oil pressure gauge and see it at 5 all the time. I'm new to having a porsche in the collection and am wondering what healthy readings would be at idling, bringing the RPM's high etc. Is 5 letting me know something is maxing out or is it normal to be there?
5 is good. 0 is bad. You want high oil pressure. Generally my oil pressure stays close to 5 until the oil warms (even at idle).
After the oil warms, and when accelerating (higher RPM's), it may drop to around 4-4.5. With a warm engine, and at idle (assuming manual trans) I will generally be 2.5-3.0.
Note that the OP reading may jump around like erratically. If that happens chances are good that you have a bad OP Sender which is known defect and a very easy DIY. Good luck!
Sounds like you have a bad sender if it's at 5 all the time. Mine is on it's way out. It will read 5, and then after awhile start acting normal again. It's an easy DIY, I've just yet to find the time.

Hi Gonzo, are you saying that your 996 fully warmed up engine in AZ weather still maintains 2.5 - 3.0 bars of oil pressure at idle speed ?
I'm happy to see 2.0 bar a 200*F in 997S. And most of 997 / Turbos run 1.5 on M1 oil at idle speed.
And I use "quality" oil buddy.
Would love to see a pic

^I meant this
Thats how mine was when I first bought it. Once I changed the oil it droped from warm 3k RPM at 5 bar to 3k at 4 bar and warm idle went from around 3 down to 2 bar
Mine was always pegged at 5, dropped to 4.5 occasionally. Replaced sender unit-$54 at sunset porsche- with DIY process using crowfoot tool posted on the site. Now it cycles down once the car is warmed up. Take the rear wheel off and its a 45 minute job.
