Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The original link worked for me just fine last night.
I told my neighbor I'd spread the word (see ad) if a Rennlist member was looking for a daily driver or was looking for a cool car for their significant other or friend ). No affiliation other than it's gorgeous and I wish I could have bought it for my own DD. I needed a bigger car (4 door) so I just got one.
It's pretty much perfect and one of the nicest in the region (is my guess). Contact him directly from ad below if interested (not me!):

Forgive me but,, and I know I was never asked that question,, but,,, never the less,,,,I just cannot see the justification in anyone wanting to fork out 50 grand on a 2002 996 car even if this car has twin or quadruple turbos. Plus, I should think it would look perfect and gorgeous as its hardly been on the road or out of the garage. Its a garage queen. I mean,, how fast do we want to take off on the American road systems? Is the 3.4 or 3.6 Carrera not fast enough? At 25 grand cheaper, I think it is well fast enough. I could have two 996 fast enough cars standing in my garage for the price he has on this one. It just doesn't make sense to me AND forgive me again. I know it has nothing to do with you and I praise you for telling us about this car. That's me off my soap box. It's my head banging time again...

Hurdi, this is not a bad price at all for an X50 option car, I would be all over it given if I was looking and in the financial position to do so.
Two 996s don't add up to one FAST 996TT with X50, nor does the local speed limit comes to play, otherwise you should have gotten an used Alfa Romeo Spider convertible for half of what you paid for your Porsche and be happy with it. ;-)
Ok, you said it...
YOU
cannot see the justification but many of us can.
Really? you do get that many of us are car nuts here? faster is always better?
Damn dude, go buy a Prius
I'm with you on this one. I have had my normally aspirated 3.4 996 for a couple months now and I think it is plenty fast on the street. Having said that, if I had stupid money, I would prolly rock a GT3 which is much faster.
Yeh I suppose TT would 'come into its own' on a track or salt flats haha. Anyway, If you all know that 'faster is better' how come you all don't have one. Car NUTS? NUTTERS more like it lol. Tell the truth, you are happy with what you got for your money. Right. Hell if I had stupid money (which I thought was a very apt description) , I would probably have gone for a Ferrari or Lamborghini. No.. second thoughts,, I would have gone for the latest PORSCHE but I don't have enough stupid money available. If I had only 50 grand in my hand and the 2002 TT and my 99 C2 Cab were standing together. Mine at 20 grand and the TT at 30 grand higher, I would stick 30 grand in my skyrocket (cockney slang for pocket) and whistle, all the way to the bank. It's a still a 'no brainer' in my eyes. BUT that's OIMHO of course.
No I haven't.. I could MAYBE justify this car if I lived where I used to live for 5 years. Germany. But not here in the States. I have had mine up to 150mph with no problem and I am not saying if I was on a track or not, but I would love to take the TT up to 200mph on the German Autobahns.
The guy driving the Camry next to you is probably thinking the same thing. Both cars will get you from point A to point B in the same amount of time if you follow all laws.
Why did you buy a used porsche for $xyz when you could have bought a buick convertible for much less money? Both will drop the top so you can cruise around.
gee lets see - i'll start:
1. no IMS issue
2. no cracked cylinder head issue
3. no intermix issue(caused by above)
4. nicer looking headlights - better looking/performing car period
5. great resale value - not losing 10% per year - therefore better investment
having the extra $15-$20K helps in making your decision. i'm trying to hold out but will be a year or 2 before i can get into a TT - but thats where i'm headed.
^ But there is the coolant fitting issue! Local racing sanction bodies here have now mandated the 996 Turbo cars to either pin the coolant fittingsm or run pure water with Redline Water Wetter before they are allowed on DE days on race tracks.
its a fact the TT engines are just better period - of course you are talking $40K for the car instead of $15-$20K.
my next watercooled porsche will be a TT without a doubt - having 2 kids headed to college is making that difficult for now but in time.
just have to suffer with my 356
Great post. I agree 100% and I will say that the TT pulls so much harder than a NA 996. Mine is a X50 so probably more so (the OP was looking at an X50 as well). I think its worth it and there are places I can explore my car at speed. I had an 02 Boxster S for 5 years and it was fun and fast. The TT is a whole different ball game period.
Hurdi needs to step up and admit that the reason he doesn't like the TT is that there isn't enough room on the rear spoiler for all his lettering.
I've owned 2 regular 996s and now I'm on my 2nd Turbo, this time a cab. There is no comparison. If you think your car is fast enough, DO NOT drive a Turbo, because you will no longer want your NA 911.
My wife's Tahoe will get me where I need to go easily enough. That's not what it's about. The boost is in my blood now.
having owned one, i think the 996 is a great car - ashame the the engine issues have caused their values to decline and not maintain a reasonable market value but there are many porsche models over the years that have had similar issues/outcomes; the 74-77 911s(too small a cooling fan and broken headstuds requiring complete engine rebuild), 84-85 carrera's(poor valve seats requiring complete head rebuild), 89-91 964(no engine seal leading to major oil leaks requiring complete rebuild), 993 air passages clogging from carbon throwing CEL light (requiring head rebuild to pass emissions - you can get thru emissions on the 95 model)- i've owned them all and the 77 911s is one of my favorite cars with great weight to hp ratio and theres nothing like the sound of the 2.7 engine.
i came very close to buying a fellow members 2003 996 a couple of months ago - i've been looking for a while but finally decided to hold off until i can afford the TT model. since i love the TT look, i debated a C4S but what sense would that make when they have the same engine issues as the 996.
many C4S's i looked at had replacement engines but not an upgraded engine. i found some steal deals on a couple of 99 996's that were well serviced and in great condition but none of them had the IMS upgrade and once i looked at the 2003 with the better looking headlights i couldn't go back to the 99 headlights.
to me, the TT is a beautiful looking car and a great car to drive - i love the wheels and i really have to have one in silver or seal grey w/black interior.
to this day, this is/was my favorite porsche to drive and many porsche owners wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole - my old 1977 911s - rebuilt engine with upgraded devlar headstuds/11 blade fan back in 1992 - looked great when i added the H4 headlights:
