I initially only installed the front bumper and side skirts to my car - it looked vastly improved, but eventually decided that the car needed the wing to complete the look - that took the appearance to another level.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

would it look bad to just have the taco wing on a non areo 911? meaning not having the side skirts or front bumper, just the wing...

POST 2Original post

It's not really about looks, it's about safety. The wing provides tremendous down force and is meant to be balanced out by the front bumper - not having the front bumper results in unsafe handling at higher speeds.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

could i balance this with a lip? still would it look bad? i dont track my car btw

POST 4Original post

Yes, you can balance it with a different front bumper cover. However, if you are not tracking the car, it honestly won't make that much difference and it definitely won't make it unsafe, particularly if you put it in the lowest setting. I'm running one on my race car right now. I put a GT3 nose on the car, and found that in high speed turns I needed downforce on the back to balance the car. But when I put it on first at the lowest setting, it did VERY little. So I race with it now fully "up". For street driving I would not worry about putting the taco wing on. If you are driving the car hard enough for it to matter, you probably should be arrested.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ya, so do you think it would look weird, as i have the oem non areo front with no side skirts...?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i love the look of the taco wing, thats why i want it, i just dont want it to look weird. or unbalanced...

POST 7Original post

I bet after the wing install you will shortly add more stuff to the car anyways I think the wing looks great on its own anyways. did you already buy the wing ? because it can be pricey .... I actually have a gen2 wing that I never installed because I never manage to buy a gt3 bumper... may be I should go for it as well mine is new and unpainted so it is a little more work. I wish I could have got a taco wing as they are so different, but could not find one for sale at the time

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ya, and im gonna do new wheels and im lowering the car which i think will help.

POST 9Original post

you will notice the difference in handling as low as 90 mph. If you always follow the speed limit, then what has been said previously is true, if you do not, then you should heed the warning.

POST 10Original post

I don't think the wing would look bad on it's own. However, what I don't like is when people add a after market front bumber, and don't change the side skirts and rear bumper at the same time.

POST 11Original post

If your car is white, the full aerokit would look great I think. I wouldn't do just the rear wing, if you want an aerokit car, selling yours and buying one is probably more straight forward, and I bet you can find one that already is lowered and has after market wheels on it.

POST 12Original post

Since this is opinion based on the aesthetics side (I claim ignorance on the physics): I had a 99 Factory Aero, and I have seen cars with an added Taco Tail only. It looked weird to me - unfinished. More like a tuner car, where the guy adds a huge tail on top of the civic, with nothing else (well maybe a coffe can muffler too). Again, just my opinion. I had a full Factory Aero, so I am probably biased to the complete factory package/look. I think the front spoiler with the side skirts and no tail looks better than only the tail - I've seen that too. On the flip side, it's your car and your money, so do what makes you happy.

POST 13Original post

I agree with the tuner comment. The frt bumper and skirts look good less the taco. But the taco alone? That's like a taco with out the rice and refried beans. I need to read up re: the down force aspect.

POST 14Original post

Honestly I think the rest of the aero kit is visually over rated. I think it will look fine and no one other than another p-car owner will even know and actually a lot of p-car owners will not even know. I say go for it!

POST 16Original post

Would others know the difference? Maybe, Maybe not. Does it look dramatically improved with the full kit instead of a partial kit, absolutely! You seem to be unconcerned with safety (I would argue that you should be) and only concerned about aesthetics, so if you only care about looks, then why go half-assed and not do the less expensive bits that do add to the appearance of the car? The front bumper and side skirts to add to the car, so you would be losing out by not doing them. I initially only installed the front bumper and side skirts to my car - it looked vastly improved, but eventually decided that the car needed the wing to complete the look - that took the appearance to another level. I tend to agree with the comment that adding the wing alone is like a kitted out Honda - (poor) style over substance and often all noise with little performance. IMHO by installing the wing alone you would have a car that is less stable at high speed (negating the reason you bought the car in the first place) and looks odd to anyone that knows Porsches.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i think iv decided to leave my car alone (besides lowering it) and focus on buy a house...

a lowered stock bodied 996 looks awesome.... If I didnt fall off the slope, I would of been happy with stopping the obsession with coilovers and arbs.

POST 19Original post

Hey "fly996" just posted side aero side skirts for sale. abotu 6 bills... Look him up.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 7973017

Well if you would have told us you were living in your car to begin with, we would have told you to rather spend the money on getting a house!

Curious - what would it cost to turn a plain C2 into a full aero (front, side, rear/tail, paint) - I guess assuming aftermarket?

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 7976858

A couple grand including painting the kit.

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 7977241

More than a couple of grand. A full factory kit unpainted is close to 5K.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

lol ya i think thats all im doing is gonna lower it. i painted my calipers matalic yellow and i have cayenne gunmetal colored twits. so itll look good just being lowered. i dont want to rent a house forever you know? iv already made my last car (2001 BMW 330I) a show car and i told myself i wouldnt mod this one like crazy like the last lol

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 7977270

I would have thought more than a couple grand too, since I've seen after-market wings going for $1600.

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 7976858

I can't tell you the exact numbers right now, as I'm in NC and the paperwork is in PA, but from memory the front bumper was close to $3K including paint (self-installed), the side skirts were around $800 (porsche installed) including paint and the rear wing around $5K plus paint. I bought my OEM wing used and it cost me $1500 plus $500 for paint and install. Buying the entire kit from Porsche and having it painted by a Porsche body shop I was quoted as around $11K. In the end my entire kit was around $5K painted and installed. If you're patient, keep your eye out for parts and do the install yourself, then you can do it pretty economically.

POST 27Original post

2006..... I paid $3500 painted, all OEM.... bumper, side, gt trim... new. Wing used. Installed everything mysef.

POST 28Original post

I bet if you looked long enough you could buy it all for under 1500.00, then another 700 - 1000 to paint off the car, then you install.... But I have noticed these guys with factory taco wings for sale seem to think they are made of gold.

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 7978387

I believe those were the good ol days before Porsche raised prices on those parts. I know just looking for rear GT trim, I found some old posts that had them listed for ~$350 new. Now they are almost double. As for the Taco Wing, I finally found and OEM one so my Adjustable Rep is for sale. Compared it side by side and they look nearly identical, except "Made In France" engraving.

Replica Taco Wing with Adjustable Center Flap. There are a couple minor cracks which was estimated around $250 from the body shop to repair. $500 plus shipping.
