Suggestion · Original poster

I have read numerous forum responses about modifying existing 3.6 exhaust, my mechanic is suggesting replacing the cats with fabspeed cats for $1500 or could do the whole fabspeed system for $5k.

Suggestion

If I had to replace my cats on my own dime, I'd probably go with Fabspeeds.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My right cats are going out on my 03' 996 C2 Cab. Ideally I would like to address the cats, improve the sound with a new exhaust and gain any additional HP and weight loss. I have read numerous forum responses about modifying existing 3.6 exhaust, my mechanic is suggesting replacing the cats with fabspeed cats for $1500 or could do the whole fabspeed system for $5k. I have also looked at the Fister sport muffler for $225. I am also concerned about droning that I have seen some complaints about as well as don't want to go too loud while still obtaining the performance sound above 4,000 rpm. Don't want to loose torque either. Ideally I would like to spend@ $1,000-$1,500 and get the maximum value. So might you suggest as the right combination.

POST 2Original post

You might check your in-service date. Your cats are supposed to last 8 years and they should be replaced by the dealer if they don't make it. That will give you maximum value right there There are a number of threads on this, so do a search if you have more questions. Or maybe Ed or Tim will dig around for you, lol. -td

POST 3Original post

My Fisters don't drone at all. If I had to replace my cats on my own dime, I'd probably go with Fabspeeds.
