Or go to the local VW dealer. For the price of these the shipping from an on-line source will probably be more than the cost of the wires.

OK, thanks. Was this an option on early 996s? My 99C4 came with this feature.

Correct. Not sure what the option code was but you actually had to order the OBC (On Board Computer) option. However, the dealer can "turn on" the feature with the PIWIS/PST2 and this hack allows you to use the features. Really, all it is good for is to scroll between the outside temp and range.
