Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I bought a lock set from Pelican Parts, but it does not fit; it just slips off the splines (if that is what they are called).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all! I am at the end of my rope, looking for a lug key. I am reaching out to the forum in hopes that someone can help me identify the correct key to remove a flat tire. We have a 2002 996 C4. We were driving down the interstate when the sidewall was cut. We had the car towed back home, where I realized that I could not find the lug key. I believe we lost it during a recent move. I have attached a photo of the lug pattern. I bought a lock set from Pelican Parts, but it does not fit; it just slips off the splines (if that is what they are called). Part#: 993-361-057-00-OEM is what I ordered from Pelican Parts. All four wheels have a lug key. They are the turbo wheels currently on it. I have another set of standard wheels with new tires ready to go on it. Any help would be appreciated! Anthony

POST 2Original post

Take it to a tire shop. They usually have a universal lug nut removal tool. Then throw those lug nuts in the trash. No one is going to steal your wheels. Get some new lug bolts. You can get your own universal lug nut removal tool on Amazon, or maybe even at your local auto parts store.

POST 3Original post

Have you looked in the toolkit in the frunk? Thats where mine was when I bought the car. Short of DBJOEs recommendation, you could try a nut extractor of an appropriate size (big enough to fit over a 19mm nut) Good luck * per Joes advice, once you get those things off, throw them away!

POST 4Original post

I took mine off by pounding a 1/2" drive socket onto it with a mini sledge. Then used an impact to remove. I think I used 2 or three sockets to do all four

POST 5Original post

I think there is 50 different keys that the Porsche Dealer has to remove those "anti-theft" bolts......I know we had a complete set at Porsche B'ham before I retired.... Lots of Porshe owners lost those things, ( and a lot of Mechanics ended up with some somehow in their tool boxes). But like others have said, there are other ( less elegant ) ways to get them off......and you don't have to put them back on either....like mentioned no one will steal those plain Turbo Wheels ...lol

Anthony, here's what I did. The last owner lost the key lug and so I drove down to my Porsche 996 to the dealer and went to the parts department and explained the situation. He had the master set and found the correct match within minutes. Told me the # to order. Ordered it and was mailed to me. I removed all key lugs and replaced with standard lugs. Never had a problem with theft.

POST 7Original post

Master set from the dealer is the quickest solution. Get the car down there, ask them to remove the offending locks, and SELL you four new non-locking lug nuts. They will be glad to help. I do one of two things on my car. As soon as I get the car, I take the lock to Porsche and order a second one and that one lives in my tool box and never leaves. That is on the 996 GT3. Or, I throw the locking nuts away and replace them with non locking ones. That is for the 997S, Lexus UX, and Audi. No one wants those wheels.

Ditto on getting rid of the Porsche goofy locking lug nuts. PLUS, if you add wheel spacers, usually you will have to get "universal fitting" longer lug nuts to go with the spacers. Those locking-theft ones are not in longer lengths, so they are gone anyway. If you get different width wheel spacers for front/rear, then just put different color paint dabs on each set, so they don't get mixed up. A similar dab on the spacer helps you remember which color goes where. YMMV
