Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I took it to the dealer and got it resolved, but never again.
I mean come on... Who steals wheels anymore and who is going to leave their car in a hood where the wheels could get stolen.... Really?
I think I am pulling mine and putting in lugs.... Really? people still run around stealing wheels?
Can anyone think of any other reason to have them on the car?
You are probably right, but since you already paid for them, why bother removing?
Murphy's law says you remove them and in what becomes a rare situation never heard of in NW PA, some jack*ss will steal your rear wheels two weeks later!
Becasue it is just another thing for a tech to forget to put back, Something else i have to Ef with when I want to pull the wheels to clean them or do my Pre-state inspection check......Just a PITA.. I have insurance.
When I upgraded my summer wheels the special sockets would no longer fit so I gave them up. That was 5+ years ago. Still have them sitting around someplace.
Do you know what my dream is? A friggin' moron steals my 30lb solid twists to put on his Honda, and I get a check from my insurance company for ~$800 a corner or whatever they go for from the dealer.
True Story - I have locks on my wheels and was driving down the road one night when my rear left wheel started making a lot of noise. Upon inspection I discovered someone had apparently jacked the car up in the wrong place damaging the underbody and loosened up these so called "anti-theft" lug nuts. Professional theives have tools.
one of my customers had a set of nice alloy wheels on his truck with a locking nut on each wheel. one night he left the truck at his shop (nice area of town but no houses in the area) and a thieve removed all the standard nuts, and then ran into the truck with another vehicle to break the studs off that had locking nuts on them.
if i recall correctly, they gave up or got scared and left after getting one of two off. either way, the truck was sitting on brake rotors with a massive amount of body damage.

No problems. In fact thinking of doing the same with my Turbo.

So we all pretty much concur.
<slap of the gavel> Locking weel lugs are deemed a PITA, Cause more damage to the car then just letting someone trake the freaking wheels.
OFF WITH THEM!
+1 for ditching them
I ran into the similar situation as others describe. I needed to get the wheels off the night before a suspension install, and I'll be damned if I could not find the key, even as a CPO car. I took it to the dealer and got it resolved, but never again.
Before I took delivery of the GT3, I did the same thing; pull 'em and give me 4 standard replacements.
Marc, Kyle grabbed the 4 I have but for some reason I have 2 others? (there should be 4 other somewhere?, I will look later but if I find them you can have them)
there are ~20 keys and a quick stop at the dealer they can just go thru the master key set and take them off for you with any risk of damage - plus then you know the key number
ask me how I know
They're a PITA and I had the dealer remove mine when my trunk locking mechanism broke with the wheel lock key IN the trunk. Anyone that knows the procedure to access the trunk when the lock breaks knows why this was so frustrating.
