Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Any known engine problems for 996 Carrera 4 2003...conttemplating purchase with 15, 338 miles on it. One owner car clean carfax, purchasing from dealer who serviced and sold car orginally
I thought Dr. Phil gave advice?
Starting with that wonderful twang:
"what you neeeeed toooo do is........"
Being serious. Low mileage is not necessarily a good thing on these cars.
A pampered garage queen may not be the best example of the breed.
Get a pre purchase inspection (PPI) of the car and have it completed by an independent shop that really knows Porsches, not a dealer.
It will be the best $200 to $300 you ever spent.
Get all the service records you can get your hands on.
Especially how often the oil was changed. If the oil was changed 5 times in the last 8 years, move on.
Just the usual stuff.......a 15K car sounds great but the mileage is kinda scarey. The best cars through several opinions all over this board which basically in around about way, are the one's that have been driven. A sitting car can be a sick car.
If you are the Dr. Phil I'm thinking of than you are in the right profession being here. Welcome and good luck.
welcome Dr PhilH, take into consideration if the car was in a climate controlled garage in which case the exterior / interior / moldings / leather/plastic components should also be in very good to excellent condition;
When you get it inspected, make sure
ALL
fluids should be changed if the PO hasn't done so.
What condition is the paint in? A good detailed cleaning should make that car appear like new...
For those low miles, the interior / undercarriage / engine compartment should be in excellent condition. If not, then consider the miles may not be accurate.
Good luck with the Purchase and post Pics!
A very low mileage car might be a gem, or it could be trouble. Only time (or rather miles) will tell.
One very real issue is that this car hasn't really had a good shakedown to get it on it's merry way. This is typically done under factory warranty and you may get to discover some bugs (and some are nasty) all on your own.
I say tell them it's a ticking time bomb and buy it for a song because chances are that this car will be fine. Plus it's an 03' so it should be a good one
I personally was much more willing to pay less money for more miles than more money for less miles.
Good luck with your search. I hope you find/found a good one.
Oh yeah, do all the stuff that MIA and S'Stout says to do. Really.
Brian
If you can I would push to include or fund a reliable dealer warranty added, even with a higher deductible, with that, I would definitely not hesitate regarding the low miles, contrary to posts above.
I would favor a 2003 996 with lower miles and dealer accepted warranty protecting key components (engine/tranny) over one with higher miles and no warranty.
