Performed · outcome unconfirmed
Checked a lot of the usual things you mentioned but ended up being a leak from a deteriorated seal between the filler neck and the tank.

I filled the car up the other day and accidentally overfilled it.

Suggestion
FWIW, I didnt have any filling issues, just a smell when more than 3/4 full.

Suggestion
Does the fuel smell change depending on how full the tank is?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I filled the car up the other day and accidentally overfilled it. My gauge never reads full, always just slightly under full, and I was messing around trying to get it full but it overflowed. Seems to always fill about 1 gallon short of what I think it should.
No big deal, I drive the car and everything was fine. Went on a mountain drive the next day for some lunch and came home. Came back out to the garage and had a pretty strong fuel smell. To me, smelled like It was strongest from the engine bay.
The smell cleared out, I drove the car again, same issue. Parked outside until I had time to get it in the air today.
No CEL, car runs great. I pulled the fender liner to look at the fuel filler, gas tank, etc and all looks good with no evidence of a leak. Pulled the hat off in the frunk and everything looks good, no obvious leak. Inspected the fuel lines and peaked at the fuel injectors, all looks good. Pulled the plastic splash trays off underneath the fuel tank and there are no obvious signs of a leak.
Pulled the charcoal canister and I have no idea how to tell if this thing is bad. Google says it should weigh around 3.45 lbs new, mine weighs almost 4 lbs. I suspect that isnt good.
I pulled the evap purge valve in the engine bay and checked it. Seems it is closed (cannot blow air through it from the inlet) and it seems to operate when I apply 12v (I hear the valve click). Im assuming thats good.
Anyways, would love to hear some opinions. Since Ive already pulled the canister, I might just replace it anyways.
Interesting...I wonder if there's a path for liquid fuel to end up in the canister upon fuel overfill?
Seems like there is an extra 8 oz. or so in the charcoal canister.
Does the fuel smell change depending on how full the tank is? I ask because I had something similar where if the tank was full our garage would smell of fuel after a few hours of being parked. If less than 3/4, the smell wasn’t there. Checked a lot of the usual things you mentioned but ended up being a leak from a deteriorated seal between the filler neck and the tank. Replaced the gas tank and filler neck and the issue was solved.
When full and parked, I felt like the smell was coming from around the fuel filler and not the engine as you mention, so may be different.
Unknown at the moment, I stopped driving it until I could get it in the air and verify no fuel leaks existed.
However, the tank didnt seem to fill any more or less than usual and I havent had this issue before.
I went ahead and ordered the vapor canister since it seems like it should be replaced anyway, and the purge valve was only $50 so I ordered that too. Ill install tomorrow and drive a little this weekend.
Hopefully thats it as obviously is better than replacing a gas tank 🥴
FWIW, I didnt have any filling issues, just a smell when more than 3/4 full.
Let us know how it goes.
