Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

From what I have been able to gather, body-colored gurney lips came on factory-installed kits whereas black lips came on non-factory-installed kits as well as RoW 996.1 GT3s.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sorry if this is a newb question and yes, I have searched, however I am confused...
What is the difference between a Gurney Lip, spoiler or flap. Some of the posts appear to be referring to strip on the bottom part of the taco wing and others seem to be referring to a spoiler/diffuser under the front bumper of the car. Both seem to be left black.
I bought a 01 996 C4 with MK1 aerokit a couple of months ago and wish to add both since I have neither and wish to complete the look.
I noted a previous post with part numbers indicated:
996-512-988-00 (I believe for the rear taco piece)
996-505-986-00-G2X (I believe for the front spoiler)
Can anyone verify and what is the current pricing and availability?
It also seems that there are some options on the front spoiler also, i.e. using a
MK2 front spoiler lip, etc.
Anybody have any well labled pics of each example. I noted someone previously made a similar request, which was unclarified or pics were no longer available due to age of the post.
Thanks for any help in advance.

a gurney lip is a small lip (usually really tiny at the trailing edge of a wing). Are you referring to a splitter on the front of the car? A splitter goes below the front bumper which provides additional downforce on the front.
Gurney flap or lip on end indicated by arrow
front splitter UNDERNEATH what people call an air dam.
Thanks, Is Gurney specific to the the rear? It seemed some were calling the front spoiler or splitter a Gurney too, which did not seem correct. That is the source of my confusion. The terminology seems inconsistent.
So is Gurney lip or flap only applicable only to the rear? or is Is there a gurney splitter or spoiler in the front of the car?
"The Gurney Flap (or wickerbill) is a small flat tab projecting from the trailing edge of a wing"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurney_flap
"The splitter serves to reduce the pressure below the front of the car and thereby increase the amount of downforce in that region. The airstream is brought to stagnation above the splitter, by an air dam, causing an area of high pressure. Below the splitter, air is accelerated, as stated above, which causes the pressure to drop and create downforce."

Thanks for the confirmation, looks like "gurney" is only applicable to the flap on the rear then.
It looks like from prior posts the cost of the Gurney Flap is about $280, anybody bought for less and where? Is 996-512-988-00 the correct part number?
Now with respect to the front splitter/spoiler, what options are available?
Is the part number for the Mk1 front splitter/spoiler that fits a MK1 aero front bumper
996-505-986-00-G2X
Pricing appeared to be about $90. From where?
In a prior post it appeared someone modified a GT3 Mk2 splitter/spoiler to fit a MK1 aero bumper?
Anybody have pics of the two, MK1 vs Mk2 splitter/spoiler on a MK1 aero bumper?
Unfortunately I have no real value to add to this thread. I became interested in this topic after I purchased my aero kit car and subsequently saw pictures of other aero cars. Some of these cars had a body-colored gurney lip and others had a black lip.
From what I have been able to gather, body-colored gurney lips came on factory-installed kits whereas black lips came on non-factory-installed kits as well as RoW 996.1 GT3s. Whether or not this is true, I have no idea. But it seems reasonable based on pictures and option codes.
Good luck with your search for the pieces at a reasonable price. For what it's worth, my dealer quoted me $64 for a replacement front spoiler.
