It is about time to replace the brake pads in my 2003 C4s with 75K.....anyone recommend a good shop in Atlanta area.......that can service Porsche brakes, turn rotors, etc...thanks for any advice......I believe the dealer will require financing for this job and looking to see if anyone has tried one of the chain brake service stores or has an indy shop recommendation....also how much should it cost to replace brake pads and trun rotors if needed on all 4 wheels?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recommend your garage - this is an easy DIY job
No turning rotors (conventionally speaking) there are replaced when spent up.
Parts - $... (shoot, I forget someone else will have to chime in there IIRC its a couple hundred w/o rotors and $5-6 with new, parts can be ordered thru Suncoast or Sunset Porsche)
I highly recommend NOT going to "jiffy brakes" or the dealer.... if you are going to have it done outside of your home, find a good indy shop that works on Porsche (someone near you can recommend one)
pads, rotors, and fluid (OEM Porsche) should cost right in the $700 range for the parts. Agree that if you have a jack and stands and a basic set of tools you can do this! If you dont care to do it, do find an independent porsche shop. Although I personally have had good luck with service at the dealer as well.
Hello,
As others have written, changing the brake pads is a simply DIY. Changing the pads and rotors is more complicated (not real complicated, but more complicated).
If have the desire and the time, you can easily do this yourself.
However, I am hesitant to recommend that someone make this a DIY because of the importance of the braking system. If you do this wrong you can get into serious trouble. Also, if you make mistakes, the parts can get real expensive.
Any decent shop should be able to service the brakes. They can also tell you if the rotors are Ok or need to be replaced.
Good luck,
Barry
If you're replacing the rotors and if you're DIY-ing, be careful with the caliper bolts as they are mounted on an aluminum carrier. Heck, if you bring it to a shop, tell them to be careful also.
Boy, don't I know it. I screwed up my caliper carrier before a track event. Although, I'd say that the carrier in question was always somewhat problematic.
This is one of those times that an aluminum suspension isn't so great
But this wouldn't stop me from doing the brakes myself as I had done them plenty of times before.
its like 2 bolts right? Is there a screw in the rotor to keep it from falling off... thats it then.....
(have not done the P-car but plenty of "other cars")
It wasn't really difficult at all. I've taken the calipers off many times before. I think the bolts may have warped just a little frankly, because the initial threads engaged by hand enough, but as the bolt went in half way, it must have stretched the receiving thread somewhat, enough to start cross threading.
Maybe age? Car had close to 80K miles on it.
Yeah, just as a good practice with anything around the car, I put some PB Blaster/Liquid Wrench on the bolt and wait for a good amount of time for it to seep before working on removing that bolt. Same goes for header bolts since the head is aluminum also!
Then when retightening, just make sure not to overtorque, just as with anything else.
I enjoy doing brakes also, with the 996 and with our other cars. It's a weird fetish.
True. I once did my normal brake pad/fluid flushes post track event in my Audi and when I went to test the brakes after I was done, the pedal went to the floor. Rechecked everything to discover that the steel braid had worn a hole through the hose at the point where it enters the metal banjo bolt type joint.
I'm glad it happened then, instead of at the track. Funny thing is that I'd never trust the brakes to anyone. I want to know what's going on exactly w/ my brakes.
