For the M/C I used the TRW equivalent from FCP Euro.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've owned my 2000 C2 Coupe w/Tip & PSM for 25 years. Never been happy with the brake "feel." Too sloppy for my taste. The stopping power was there but pedal travel and sponginess was annoying. I had the GT3 master brake cylinder upgrade on my radar for years but had held off until I completed a complete refresh of the brake system. I recently did that, including SS brake lines & rebuilding the calipers with no improvements to the aforementioned complaints. I read through the few posts on the topic. The best of which was by Nickshu but was from 2017. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...my-996-c2.html and decided now was the time. Well, I've done it. And am really pleased. I'm not going to repeat everything from Nickshu's post but just add in a few details. For my set up, I only needed two parts, the M/C and a 12 to 10 mm adapter for the rear brake line connection. For the M/C I used the TRW equivalent from FCP Euro. Their PN is: TRW-PMN166 $315 or so. For the brake line adapter, I found what I needed on ebay from Brake Hoses Unlimited. https://www.ebay.com/itm/335199474202 See photo below for additional information but the key is both connections need to be "bubble." btw, from Nick's post, I believe C2's without PSM don't need the adapter. Install was pretty straightforward and just like some of the youtube videos out there, however, one thing I encountered - was it was a bit tough to get the reservoir off of the M/C. The video's I saw, if they even mentioned it, just said pull it straight up. Well, mine felt like it was glued on. I didn't want to damage the reservoir, so I took the whole unit off and put the M/C into a vice so I could better access the connection between the reservoir and M/C. I pried the two apart trying to make sure my pry tools put most of any sharp edges on the M/C and not the plastic. During re-assembly, the resevoir popped right onto the new M/C. Flushing: Like Nick, I didn't try to pre-fill the M/C. I just purchased 2 liters of brake fluid and used my power bleeder and my wife to pump the brakes. I also used my PIWIS to bleed the PSM system. It took a while and I went around a number of times until the wife hollered that the pedal had firmed up. My PSM threw a "fluid level code" which I couldn't clear until I finally flushed it enough. Since then and a few fun drives in the mountains here, no issues and love that pedal feel. A couple of additional comments: Based on my situation and Nick's post, I believe this solution works for 2000 to 2004 C2's with PSM. Earlier C2's likely need the later brake booster & related parts that later C2s have (see Nick's post, someone says pre-Sept 1999 cars need the later booster) And it looks like the C4 & Turbos are completely different animals (see some of the later comments in Nick's post) So, if you have a car like mine (& Nick's) I highly recommend this reasonably easy upgrade. New M/C installed. Note the adapter fitting on the rear brake line. The brake line adapter I needed for the rear brake connection to the M/C.
