Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

evoms did the work and they use air/water intercooler fitted behind the front bumper.
Leading evidence: 'Install behind the front bumper' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install behind the front bumper' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Good for street use, not efficient enough for track, due eventual heat soaking.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All,
Can a 996 Twin Turbo engine go into a '98 C2? And work properly? My friend has a chance to pick up a wrecked (bodywise) 996 TT and is thinking of shoehorning it into his 996 C2.
What's involved? Anyone done it? Please share your experiences.
Thanks!
Sprint.
well, if you have the whole TT - I imagine it's been in a front collision.
At least you'll have the wiring harness, computers, gauge cluster, etc.
I guess the hardest part will be cutting holes in the fenders.
I know that people have put them in Boxsters, threre is a member here somewhere that has one. Post something in the 987/Boxster forums and see if he responds. But if you can put one in a Boxster you could certainly put one in a 996. Might be easier in a C42 (which was a later model) with the wider rear end.
I did some exploration around this issue. It can be done, and it's not even *that* difficult. And if you have a wrecked donor, it's even less difficult... From the turbo you'll need
-engine
-transmission ( dump 4wd )
-DME & wire harness
-possibly gauge cluster and som other wiring too
-front spindles and brakes to all four corners. Or you get GT2 or 3 front spindles and calipers / discs accordingly.
-fuel pump and lines
-cooling pipes, lines and front center cooler
After that it's just wrenching, basically. The biggest issue you'll face is intercooling. You have three ways to go:
1. RUF way, ie. narrow body, IC's in their original positions and NACA-ducts to rear fenders for feeding them.
2. Water to air IC's. Good for street use, not efficient enough for track, due eventual heat soaking.
3. Gemballa way, ie. 964/993 turbo style IC on the top of your engine. Requires huge fixed wing. Gemballa sells these, price I do not know.
NOTE: In this economical sitution 996 turbos can be bought for ( almost ) nickels and dimes, so unless you really can get parts above "for free", it does not make sense financially. OTH, it's a challenge, and some of us enjoy them...and it'll make a perfect sleeper too...
the other issue I see is the intercoolers location, you will have to do some custom work, in the TT they are on the sides of the car, on a narrow body you might have to cut the rear fenders to make them wider or go with a rear mounted (993TT style) Intercooler..
there was an article in excellence where they turbo charged a gt3. similar since the gt3 is a narrow body. evoms did the work and they use air/water intercooler fitted behind the front bumper. no need to modify rear fenders.
I agree with Redridge. It would be a seriously cool DIY project. I condsidered it, when I rebuilt my first 996. If he decides to do it, please ask him to post lots of pictures. I bet he could get a few dollars back on the sale of his original engine, if it's in good shape.
I might have done it, if it just have been legal. But no. But if someone plans to do it, I'm very interested in seeing how it proceeds. Narrowbody C2 with GT2 power, nice!
