I have tried a few of those 'paintless dent removal' guys, and they're all usually pretty good, but the guy I've used for the last three years is truly an artist.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just got a fat ding on my fender today I don't understand why people got to do crap like that, they have no respect for others I was park far away from others, I tell you there are lots of people hating on others with better cars then they have. Anyways just wanted to vent sorry, how was everyones Hoilday!!

POST 2Original post

$75 and a visit to the dent doctor and it will be good as new, assuming the jerk didn't remove any paint from your car. Actually my experience is that the biggest offender is kids, which I suppose isn't too surprising. I remember getting lots of dings when I took my son to the orthodonist, until I started parking far away from his office which is in a business complex.

POST 3Original post

Eddie - Man, the SUCKS!!! Some prople are just oblivious to their surroundings and are very careless. So far I have avoided the dings, but I just know that there is one out there waiting for me. I worked on the 4th, so no special deal for me, but my wife and I are going to Kiawah Island this weekend for some R & R. Kiawah is about 30 minute drive from Charleston, SC, which is about 3 hours from where we live. Don't know if we are going to take the 996 or her CLK. Once I throw the golf clubs in either one, there is not a lot of luggage room left. Thought I'd let Pete Dye's Ocean Course beat me up a couple of times this wekend.

POST 4Original post

My problem is when I park far away or in an isolated spot, there are always half a dozen cars parked next to me...no kidding- it's the weirdest thing. There will be no cars for a bunch of spots, then cars parked by me, then emptyness. It must be a human nature thing or something where people sub-consciously park by other cars. I've been lucky so far (knock on wood), but then again I don't drive my 911 (or prior 911s) as an everyday car and can therefore be more selective of where I go with it in the first place... my everday car does have one ding, so I'll be looking into using a ding doctor as well.

POST 5Original post

You play the Ocean course and you'll have plenty O room in the car on the way home. Entire bag emptied into the sea; also bald, dog kicked, wife yelled at. Just get a massage and have cocktails by the pool.

POST 6Original post

Please don't show pics of the dings as they are too painful to look at.

POST 7Original post

Guess what, same s*&t happend to me last weekend. I parked my ride behind a building away from any other car. When I came back about ten minutes later, there was a shopping cart laying on my front bumper. The shopping cart left a 2 inch crease on the front bumper. BTW, does anyone know how to get a crease out of the front bumper cover. Luckily, the paint was not scratched but I just can't stop looking at the damn crease!!!!

POST 8Original post

You might try a hair-dryer to heat it up and see if it goes back into shape. I haven't had any luck using that technique, but that's what I was told.

POST 9Original post

I am no longer bothered with Cosmetics. It is tooo stressful. Just feel lucky your driving one of the finest cars in the world. Paint and body work is cheap. Your engine, suspension, brakes, etc is the expensive part.

POST 10Original post

Bodywork is not cheap and is an eye sore. I love a perfect showroom condition car and anything short of that is a shame. I'll be damn if I ever end up with a bunch of dings all over the car and scrapes on bumpers. A good paint job costs $5-7k easily plus your car's value with drop too. My mom has a few deep scratches from someone keying it. I still can't understand why she doesn't want to spend a couple hundred to have that wet sanded. She spends almost no money on maint bc I take care of it for her. Maybe it's time she start dropping $500 for an oil change to realize that a couple hundred is a small amount to pay.

POST 11Original post

Take your mom's car to someone like Colors on Parade. They are mobile, do the repair quickly, and don't charge much. Chances are they could repair the scratches for around a $100. Most car Dealers have specialists who come to their lots regularly. So if you don't know of any, call your Dealer for a recommendation, but don't schedule the appointment through your Dealer since there will be a Dealer markup. Just call the guy yourself and arrange for a place to meet.

POST 12Original post

I first posted this in 1997 based upon my previous 914 and 964 experience. Much of it is still true today, especially the item about dings. I hope you find something that gives you a laugh. Free Therapy for All 911 Owners If you havent already been there, check out the great website, rennlist.com. Its treasure trove of information, misinformation, and otherwise interesting reading of messages sent between Porschefiles. I have been following the 993 bulletin board the last few years. I have found it informative, enlightening, and at times humorous. However, I suspect that there is a strong underlying layer of pure Porsche PARANOIA out there. Id like to help all those so afflicted. Let me lay out Dr. Freds 10 irrefutable laws of 911 ownership: 1.ALL 911s USE OIL! There Ive said it. Its out in the open for all to see. With a horizontally opposed engine with oil lying in the heads and at times draining from the sump to the crankcase, a 911 is going to burn oil at times. Youll notice it occasionally at start-up. Until the rings seat, it will consume oil during driving. Check the owners manual. It even tells you how much to expect. 2.ALL 911s LEAK OIL! Tell us its not so Dr. Fred! The 911 engine has more seams, gaskets, seals and o-rings that just about any other engine I can name. Sooner or later, some of these joints are going to leak. Its NOT a problem. If you drop the cover below the engine on a 993 or 996 you will see the evidence. Hiding this from your eyes is probably the main purpose of this belly pan. 3.AT SOME TIME, ALL 911 BRAKES WILL SQUEAL! It varies from car to car. Its the vibration of the pads. Sure it can be annoying, but you cant make it go away forever. 4.DRIVEN HARD ENOUGH ON THE TRACK, ALL 911 BRAKES CAN OVERHEAT! Despite this apparent shortcoming, you have a car with the finest brake system on the road today. You just dont appreciate how hard the system works under track use. 5.ALL 911s WILL WEAR OUT TIRES FASTER THAN ANYTHING SHORT OF A VIPER! Youve got a lot of weight and torque at the rear wheels. The rear tires will wear out twice as fast as the fronts. It doesnt matter what the brand, the relative wear front to back is the same. 6.NO MATTER WHERE OR HOW YOU PARK, YOU WILL EVENTUALLY GET A DOOR DING! Its only a matter of time. You may feel better to ding it yourself the first time and get it over with. 7.NO MATTER WHAT PROTECTION YOU USE, SHORT OF A FULL BODY CONDOM, YOU WILL EVENTUALLY GET STONE CHIPS! Same principal as law # 6. 8.NO MATTER WHAT MODIFICATIONS YOU INSTALL, SOMEONE WITH A LESSER CAR IS ALWAYS FASTER THAN YOU ON THE TRACK! For proof, ask Mika Hakkinen. Note, if youre reading this Mr. Schumacher, you can skip law #8. 9.THE 911 HAS THE MOST COMPLEX PROCEDURE TO CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL OF ANY DEVICE EVER BUILT! Just read the owners manual and dont try to read too much into what you see on the dash gauge or the dipstick. The design has lots of room for erroneous readings. 10.ALL 911s LEFT THE FACTORY AS RACE CARS! Dont baby your baby. When the opportunity presents itself, grab the animal by the scruff of the neck and wring it out! Your car will absolutely love you for it. It will probably run better for the next few weeks just to show you its appreciation. What Ive tried to say with all of this is dont take this Porsche thing THAT seriously. Enjoy the oddities and quirks of the machine. It appears that Porsche is hell-bent on sanitizing future models for your protection. You can drive every mile in anxiety over every little thing, or you can just sit back and enjoy one of the greatest cars ever to come down the road. RELAX!..and ENJOY! Kinda makes you mad that ******** like that are out there and have no respect for another's property. Bummer...but Ding Doctors or Dent Doctors or whatever the heck they are called do a nice job and she'll be good as new. hang in...

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the replys guys. I made an appointment with my local dent wizard and hope to get it fix ASAP

POST 16Original post

Here is one for you. I just got a mint 993 (10kmiles) yesterday. Not even 24hrs and I have my first ding. Either my sisters baby carrier or one of my son's friends. Painful.... Anyone have any experience with getting them removed? How is it done and how much does it cost ?? There are two very small ones.. Didn't break the paint...

POST 17Original post

I get a few dings repaired every year. I have tried a few of those 'paintless dent removal' guys, and they're all usually pretty good, but the guy I've used for the last three years is truly an artist. He makes it look sooooo easy. Do a search on the web for your city and search for things like 'dent wizard' or 'paintless dent removal' etc. It can cost anywhere from $50 to $150 for each dent.
