Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello All, Anyone have experience with an indy shop North of Boston? Autobahn in Peabody and KMC in Lawrence are two that are close to me. looking to do the IMS / RMS fix. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I use Autobahn in Peabody - I've had very good experience with them. I know another 968 owner that wasn't impressed with them. Never heard of KMC and they would be much closer to me than Rick @ autobahn. On edit: OK I see KMC is a BMW shop recently added Porsche - I'd go with Rick for anything beyond an oil change.. until I learned more about KMC. The big three indies in Boston area are EPE (European Performance Engineering) in Natick, Randolph Racing in Randolph and Autobahn in Peabody.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, Shamus. Will contact Rick..and EPE. Have you had IMS / RMS experience?

POST 4Original post

No IMS/RMS issues, but was at Autobahn on Friday for an oil change and discussed it with him. They've done LN IMS replacements and I will likely have them do mine when I am ready to tackle. They also took a car from a local dealer that was an reported to be an IMS failure that they rebuilt/retrofit without having to replace the engine. We also talked about the 959 they worked on quite a few years back...you know, the one with NY plates

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, Shamus. I'll let you know how my ims / rms experience goes. Hopefully won't be more than 2500 lighter when it's all said and done!

POST 6Original post

had a quote for 1500 to do the ims at randolph racing

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Autobahn just quoted me 188 for IMS and RMS......seems like a great price.

POST 8Original post

Right. I seem to remember them quoting about 1800 for ims/Rms/aos

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pulling the trigger at Autobahn. They offer a new clutch for 800. PPI showed no clutch problem. What do you think?

POST 10Original post

What's your mileage? if over 40 do the clutch. They should also be able to evaluate it when they have to remove it for the IMS.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, 26K miles on it. The guy said he may not have to replace it, but will inspect it during IMS/RMS fix as you said. Seems like an honest guy......we'll see!

POST 12Original post

I would also check out these guys in Stow. I had them install a set of pss9 and align - very reasonable price plus they gave me a 944 as a loaner car!!!! http://www.autosportengineering.com/

It's the pressure plate you need to worry about with a 996 not the clutch disc. If you're not tracking the car I woudl leave it alone unless there's visible wear which would be unusual....
