Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Anyways....so i set my eyes on a 996 due to its value/performance vs 997, i do like the 997 headlight better, but probably not $15k better given the minimum performance difference...I love 987 too but I got a 4 yr old.

As mentioned, there are plenty of used 996s, wait till you feel ready again to commit to Porsche ownership, then pull the trigger.

I don't want to own two demaning german cars in terms of maintenance and potential repair cost.

I am just beat after so many attempts and throw in the uncertainty of $$funds may need to divert to repair the damage as I am a cash buyer.

I test drove a SC430 and turned it back to the dealer after driving it barely out of dealer's gate.

and the hunt is on for the 996...located a MKII cab with only 30k miles, great color combo, not much options which suits me fine; test drove went well, the car sounds/feels strong.

I am in the money management business and I even tell my wife that given 1.99% used car loan rate we can get from the credit union, we should put the cash in the munis yielding 3.5% tax free; this way, we are actually getting paid to borrow.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am just drained at this point and put up no fights....feels like have been dating a great girl and feels so right but in the end just didn't work out.
I love driving and appreciate german cars and have own Auid/BMW in the past 10 years but no sports car. after owned an Audi cab (as a second car) for a brief 6 month, i realized two things....I love convertible and I love performance in a convertible but don't care much about luxury for the convertible. I test drove a SC430 and turned it back to the dealer after driving it barely out of dealer's gate. Anyways....so i set my eyes on a 996 due to its value/performance vs 997, i do like the 997 headlight better, but probably not $15k better given the minimum performance difference...I love 987 too but I got a 4 yr old. Regardless....
So I sold my BMW daily and my Audi cab and got a boring daily driver/beater as in anticipation of getting the P-car. why? I don't want to own two demaning german cars in terms of maintenance and potential repair cost. and the hunt is on for the 996...located a MKII cab with only 30k miles, great color combo, not much options which suits me fine; test drove went well, the car sounds/feels strong. So in the following month, when i try to schedule for a 2nd visit with the owner to have another look and making an offer face to face, all sorts of things happened to prevent it from happeneing. BTW, my first test drive was during the rain too and it cleared up as soon as I left. anyways, for the 2nd visit, the owners cxled once and needed to reschedule and then we got rains, storms, massive traffic backs and earth quakes everytime we tried to work something out. the car actually brokedown once too ....and I was determined to move ahead. and this is during the 3 week span. and the straw broke the back was the rain storm last week and got my basement flooded. I am just beat after so many attempts and throw in the uncertainty of $$funds may need to divert to repair the damage as I am a cash buyer. and plus the wife feels uncomfortable now given so much has happened. I am just drained at this point and put up no fights....feels like have been dating a great girl and feels so right but in the end just didn't work out. worst of all, now I am stuck driving a boring daily driver. my only hope is that "all good things come to those who are patient". sorry about the rant...the wait will only make the eventual ownership sweeter....
keep the search up...there are plenty great cars out there, and you will find the right one...look at it this way...if it was the right car it would have happened...you may have dodged a bullet...keep up the search and enjoy the hunt...it is almost as much fun as owning one (well...maybe not, but it is fun...)
I go through those peaks and valleys. I think we all do. But I always harken back to a little black sticker I saw on the side window of a Ferrari at a car show years ago ... "
Life is too short for boring cars
."
Amen.
I don't mean to rain on your parade but the quote above is what resonated most with me. It sounds like this might not be the best time to throw money at a new car. Do it when you're sure you can afford it and you and your wife are seeing eye to eye. I know it's hard but try not to let the emotional side of wanting a new car get to you. The right car will be there for you when the time is right.
Best of luck!
-Eric
My story is somewhat similar. I was between jobs when looking. I probably committed 10 hours a week for three months to finding a car.... Two failed deals. All kinds of trouble arranging the purchase...
And, all too often, when I've planned a really fun road trip or planned to show off my car to friends , it has rained. I often wondered if it just wasn't meant to be; maybe it was my destiny to not own a porsche.
Alas, the car has been wonderful ever since.
Hang in there.
Thanks for all the encouragement ….I am a bit superstitious, sounds silly but I admit it.
To Eric, I hear what you mean in terms of financial readiness which isn’t an issue. I am properly “underbuying” if you know what I mean. I am in the money management business and I even tell my wife that given 1.99% used car loan rate we can get from the credit union, we should put the cash in the munis yielding 3.5% tax free; this way, we are actually getting paid to borrow. What I got exhausted was from female’s emotional decision making process. On a good day after a spa treatment and right period of the month, she would encourage me to go out and get a 996TT as my toy and during the wrong period of the month, you know the rest….. But I love her and want her to be on board with me 100%..... anyways, cab season is almost over, 991 is coming out, 997 is start to cracking below $40k level, economy is not going to get anywhere anytime soon. So I see I will have the tailwind…maybe by thanksgiving/Christmas time.
Keep looking. It's out there. Been there, done that, finally became a proud Porsche owner four months ago. Wanted, dreamed, waited and waited and then the stars were aligned!!
Good luck.
