Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last night I made a rookie mistake and set the torque wrench to 81 foot lbs. instead of 60, as the workshop manual states. The result was the bolt broke before I got to 81 foot lbs. Luckily, it broke off, exposing enough threads to unscrew what was left, with my bare fingers. I'm going to play it safe and order six new bolts. Can anybody give me a hand w/ the part number?

POST 2Original post

You are lucky. By the way I've noticed some of those WSM conversions are off, I normally take the Nm and run it through a calculator/converter to get ft lbs. 90006712309 SCKT SCREW 10X50

Good point. Thanks for the tip. I found a slightly different part number: 900-067-123-02, available on Pelican.

POST 4Original post

That P/N is fine if you are buying from Pelican.

POST 5Original post

I'm confused. You broke the bolt off somewhere between 60 and 81 ft/lbs which seems odd in and of itself, but then you were able to unscrew it with your fingers? You have very strong fingers.

POST 6Original post

Ive also seen the Nm to ft/lb conversions wrong in the manuals -- Nm x .737 for ft/lbs

POST 7Original post

With the flange of the half shaft under the head of the bolt and the torque applied you could break off the bolt. Once the flange of the half shaft is removed there is no torque on the shaft of the bolt.

That is the wrong P/N for his car. He does not have M249 (automatic) transmission.
