I've always used Porsche OEM pads, and I will continue to do so.

Suggestion
I used to run aggressive Mintex 1155s on my old Subaru RS turbo (before the STI) which turned mediocre brakes into very decent ones, at the cost of lots of noise and new pads and rotors every 10k miles.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK so time to replace the brake pads. My car is street only this year, and if I do an event I will run pads specifically for the track.
Pads are a bit like oil, a matter of religion. Some of us here love the Mintex Reds, and others swear they are inferior to the Porsche OE pads. I've never seen the distinctions in performance quantified.
I have gotten some life out of the OE pads, and have never used the mintex on any of my other cars either so don't have a frame of reference. I do however recognize that I can have a whole set of mintex pads f+r for about 1/3rd the cost of the Sunset/Suncoast price for pads labeled Porsche (not going to touch the non-Porsche-logo Textars for the purposes of this post)
So I thought a poll (
) might help :
Which pad is the best value, considering pad life and stopping power, and ignoring dusting?
If you select other, chime in wt a recommendation, and please feel free to advise why you prefer one over the other.
ehhh, that's lawyer stuff, mine is full street, occasional DE duty.... no issues here. Squeaking... not bad at all. Rotor life.... I replaced my pads and rotors, fluid all at the same time.... still looks somewhat new with 5-6k miles and 3 DE.
I recall that porsche sport and pagid blue (sport) are basicly the same pad. Love them, no squeak or rotor wear. use them for my street ride, blacks or yellow for the track ride .
I simply can't believe anyone take Porsche OEM (cheap Textar) pads or Mintex Reds. I stuck with the OEM pads and they are fine, except for the dusting. The OEM pads are only adequate for the street, are the worst dusting pads on the planet and can't handle even a little heat on the track. With the OEM pads, my OEM Carrera wheels would be noticably dirty in 1 to 2 days. A Mintex Red has more initial bite, can take more and doesn't dust like the OEM pads. It is even half the price of the Textars. The Mintex easily outperform the OEM Textar and due to the low dusting, would be a bargain at the same price as the OEM pads. It is just a bonus that they are cheaper.
Sport pads are pretty decent on the track. It would be a lie to say that don't make any noise. Every time I ran a track weekend on them, they would get real noisy on the street. They were also very noise below 50 degrees. I also twice melted the metal backing plates off the rear pads. This was both on the inner and outer pads on both sides with GT2 rear brake scoops and Motul 660 fluid. The adhesive they use isn't very good. Once the plates melt off; just pull them out, throw the plates/shims in the trash and you will be fine without them. With the sport pads I also noticed they also seem to go away a lot earlier in a session once they get close to half surface thickness. Still, I think they are a great compromise with decent track performance and a bargain price.
I put the Mintex red box pads on our Audi. The S4's stock pads were extremely grabby, and the Mintex pads are much more progressive.
The main reason for changing pads on a street car is to fix a problem. I used to run aggressive Mintex 1155s on my old Subaru RS turbo (before the STI) which turned mediocre brakes into very decent ones, at the cost of lots of noise and new pads and rotors every 10k miles.
The 996's turbo brakes have a nice hard pedal, great feel and great power with stock pads. Also, Porsches are very prone to brake squeal, which I'd rather avoid on the street. So why change?
update: tried the mintex just for the hell of it, interesting notes after maybe 10 miles in the past two days:
1. they do have holes for the sensors in the correct places
2. they have counterweights like the oem pads
3. progressive, they do not have the grabby feel i loved when my oem pads were brand new (although i didn't replace rotors and i really only bedded them half assed, will do a better job when i can get the car on the highway)
4. they are dead silent, not a squeak from new
