Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Before the plug change the engine from cold (or warm or hot) started right up, idled just fine, ran just fine.

Yah sure the plugs can go the distance but how clean will they be.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well here it goes...3 pm on Sunday afternoon and changing my plugs for the 1st time. Cans are coming off and I have the magnetic articulating plug extension socket set, so I should be good to go. Time to start jacking.
What's the torque spec for the plugs?
Passenger side done. Now cans back on. I would never do this without removing the cans. They were original plugs from 2002 with just over 18,000 miles on them. They came out easily and were in okay condition. But since they were 8 years old, I felt better about changing them.
Coil packs have no cracks.
Will do. Everything's button up. About a 3 hr. job. The dealer and indy shop wanted over $300. It cost me about $100 with the plugs and magnetic socket set.
Hard to say. Different engines affect plugs differently. Even otherwise identical engines could exhibit substantially different plug life. Depends upon many factors.
Regardless though Porsche has scheduled plug changes at XXXXXX miles (varies depending upon model and model year) or IIRC after so much time has passed.
Time comes into play for fear the plugs will seize in the head and when the plugs are due to be changed head damage could occur.
Sincerely,
Macster.
That's a good one
. I bought the car in November with all service records from the dealer, but no changing of the plugs. They are to be replaced every 4 years regardless of mileage per Porsche. Since they were in there 8 years, it makes sense to get rid of them...$60 for plugs - no big deal there. I'm one of those over maintenance type of guys.
I can't sense any real difference as the old plugs were in decent condition and they came out very easily.
Ditto.
I had the plugs changed in my 03 Turbo at 30K miles (just a week or so back). I talked to tech who did the plugs and he said they came out just fine. (He told me this is not always the case however. Depends upon the type of conditions the car is driven in and it depends upon who put the plugs in the last time.)
Anyhow, the old plugs didn't look too bad either. But they had been in since the car was new and that's around 7 years.
No real difference in the engine's behavior.
Before the plug change the engine from cold (or warm or hot) started right up, idled just fine, ran just fine. It continues to do so with the new plugs.
Had I owned the car from new you can be sure the plugs would have been changed due to miles and not time.
Sincerely,
Macster.
I had the same experience with my low mileage 00 C2. the plugs looked like the originals; they came out easy, because it seemed the car was only driven in good weather; no damage to coil packs. But after 9+ years the plugs looked their age and there was wear on the electrodes. same goes for the trans fluid / filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, hoses, etc... they have a certain life expectancy..
Had the plugs changed in my 02 Boxster after about 90K miles on the plugs. The tech reported they came out ok -- had this set installed at dealer back when AOS failed -- but the electrodes were quite eroded.
The engine appeared to run just fine though.
I need to take pics of the Turbo plugs and the Boxster plugs and post. Maybe today at the office I can find the time to photograph and post pics.
Sincerely,
Macster.
