Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If the light doesn't light or doesn't always light the same then probably a fob problem.

Suggestion
I concluded that my key did not "go bad" but rather just out of synch with the car, after a certain number of cycles, they can't be reset either, and had I kept the tag that comes with the key, it could've been reprogrammed, but without it you need a new key head also...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My door locks do not work with the keyfob.
I have replaced the key battery
I have checked the fuse.
I did the whole, lock and unlock the car thing manually as it says in the manual after a "load off" condition.
I get 0 (zero) response from the car when I press the button on either of 2 keys.
No beeps, no light flashes 0. Nada, Zippo....
-I found some threads but none go into great detail.
-I see that their is a switch in the ingnition that tells the car the key is in the car.
However
I can not see this to be the problem because when I take the key out the radio shut off
. So I cant see that being it.
-I see if the rear hatch switch is bad it will casue the car not to lock.
BUT the Owners manual says the car will beep two times if their is an open circuit
(door, bonnet, rear lid) So I cant see that being it.
anything else I need to look at? How do they diagnose this at the dealer? Maybe it is time to buy one of those... computer programs to diagnose? will it diagnose this?
was at the books store today... flipping through some magazine, I forget which mag it is but they have a tech column on how to fix these type of issues.... will check for it tomorrow. From other threads, people have taken them to dealers and get them reprgrammed... very pricey though... @$250+
Watch the fobs light. If the light doesn't light or doesn't always light the same then probably a fob problem.
Most cases its the fob has broken down.
Here's a cute one.

Not one I get....
The fob lights, it flashes at about a rate of +/- 5 per second.
Where is this switch on the end of the ign switch? I was under there (found my cruise control issue while I was there, the switch was unplugged for the clutch
)
I saw no other switch on the end of the Ign sw to tell the car if the key was in or not.
I have 2 very loyal and good customers that both own Harleys. One also has a Buell. I do high performance motor work on both their bikes and help them with parts that they install themselves. As a bonus, one has been a tech at the Porsche dealer for several years, the other is the Parts Manager. Yes we scratch each others backs.
Anyway my wife's Boxster key electronics died a couple of years ago and these guys both told me last week that I would most likely need a new key head with the electronics and have it reprogramed. New batteries didn't help, and she has had to lock and unlock the car manually for the last couple of years.
The Excellence magazine is part of the PCA. I still have yet to receive a copy but await its arrival.
Try this from the manual.
The remote-control standby function
switches off after 5 days
If the vehicle is not started or unlocked with the
remote control within five days, the remote control
standby function is switched off (to prevent
discharging of the vehicle battery).
1. In this case, unlock the driver's door with the
key at the door lock.
Leave the door closed in order to prevent the
alarm system from being triggered.
2. Press button 1 on the remote control.
The remote control is now activated again.
Unfortunately it will most likely require reprogramming.
I had the same issues with the last 996 I bought, I did a lot of research, but in the end had to go with a new key and programming (two actually). I concluded that my key did not "go bad" but rather just out of synch with the car, after a certain number of cycles, they can't be reset either, and had I kept the tag that comes with the key, it could've been reprogrammed, but without it you need a new key head also...
The switch in the ignition is inside of the ignition switch. When you insert the key the end activates the internal key inserted switch.
The PO may have pulled the clutch switch to deactivate the clutch engagement "soft" throttle map.
If the led on the key lights\flashes and the led on the dash lights\flashes at the same time when you activate the key and it does not lock\unlock then they are not speaking the same language and you will need to get new heads and see the dealer $$$,
New heads are ~$100 ea from Sunset. Programming was $125 for both of mine at the same time.
Strangely when I joined the PCA they said I'd be getting the Excellence magazine as part of it. Maybe they have changed. Maybe it was a spoofed PCA website because I've never gotten the magazine yet
. Then again I only joined less than 2 months ago.
