Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've done it several times...like the others said, check the tire pressure, start car, drive away.

The only thing I did before I left was disconnect the battery.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Folks,
My 996 (C4 Cab) has sat idle in my garage for a little over 3 months now while I was out of the country. I'm anxious to fire her up and drive the car, but given it's long slumber, is there anything special I should do?
The only thing I did before I left was disconnect the battery.
Thanks for any advice!
I would charge the battery first
before
connecting it; add some fresh gas [be careful to do these tasks separately
] if you have room in the tank. Fire it up.
Reconnect the battery and right after you fire 'er up rev the motor up to redline and hold it there for 25-30 secs to blow the carbon out.....
Just kidding of course.
Perhaps Phil could offer some better advice..........
LOL!! But that's old-school, Ray. Everyone now knows you need to rev it to redline and slowly let the clutch out until you can actually SMELL the "carbon" being blown out.
(uhmm yeah, jk OP!!)
3 months is shorter than the average winter storage time. Plug in your battery, start the car, drive straight to the nearest gas station and put fresh gas in.
Then check your tire pressures. If you didn't over inflate the tires while the car was sitting, chances are they are flat spotted and might need to be replaced if you feel a vibration in the steering wheel at speed. Sometimes they become round again, sometimes they don't.
After that, drive the car like you stole it.
Regards,
management.
Hook up the battery, check tires and drive it. 3 months is nothing. If the tires feel flat-spotted, they should re-round after a few miles. It would be really weird for a modern radial to stay flat spotted from being parked.
I have '99 996 which I leave for 5-6 months every summer. Never a problem until this time...seemed to be 'bouncier' than usua, even at low speeds. Thinking it to be flat spots, I took it to a reputable shop and they found two wheels to be bent. Got 'em straightened and all is A-OK. Henceforth I'll be raising it off the tires for the idle period.
idling for 3 months? you would think id run out of gas.
ps gas wont go bad in 3 months. i have let gas sit in the car/cars MANY times. this old tale started back when there was carburetors, they would build up condensation over weeks of getting warm then cold. so you would have to "drain the gas out". now its possible if you leave your gas tank sit= half tank or less, that condensation will build up in there. but we all know to park our cars with full tanks
riiiiiight?
