Also fixed a very minor leak by replacing the football seal on the cam timing sender.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My car number is 996
Last night i replaced rotors, brakes, and did the oil change. Tonight going to put fresh brake fluid in. Ah the joys of working on the car yourself and knowing it is done right. Also fixed a very minor leak by replacing the football seal on the cam timing sender.
Taped the number on my car and packed a crate full of stuff... excited!!

2. Integral roll bar in the 986 (Boxster) and pop-up roll bar in the 996/997 Cabriolets are acceptable
subject to the two-inch height requirement (see item 3 below). The two inch height requirement
applies without regard to which top is used on the car. In these cars the soft-top must be in the up
position or the hard top installed, unless meeting all requirements for open top cars.
The top of the main hoop must be at least two inches above the occupants helmet(s). With the
driver and/or passenger correctly seated and securely belted in the vehicle, occupants helmet must
be at least two inches below a straight line drawn between the top of the windshield and the top of
the roll bar.
Hey, Dutchie - I hope you had a great DE, despite the rainy conditions. Can't wait to hear how it went for you. If you loved it, let us know if you're planning on the First Settlers DE at VIR in May.
Bob
Well, where should I start... according to the rain gauge at my house (I'm about 40 miles from the track) we had about 4 inches of rain in the last 36 hours, the temperature today was about 36 degrees with a wind chill in the high twenties/low thirties, wind gusts reaching 30 miles an hour, so all-in-all lovely conditions for my first DE and a weekend at the track, but I had a BLAST!!!
I have a whole new appreciation of how good of a car the 996 really is. The track was great (hopefully I get to drive it sometime when it is dry...). This morning I spent some time on the skid pad... very insightful!
I had a terrific instructor... Bill, thanks so much for all your help, tips, insights and for pushing me hard!! I am sure we will run into each other in the future... I am hooked!
Only took two pics this ... too cold and wet to get the camera out...
Due to the weather conditions, a lot of drivers did not come out today or left early... there were only 5 drivers left in the Green run group at 130PM and only 4 drivers in all the other groups combined
I checked the dates and looks like it is memorial day weekend... won't be able to do that.
However, I did start working the wife yesterday on letting me do the next DE at CMP in May, and guess what I found when I came home... I am a lucky guy!!!
In a way, it's good that your first DE was in the rain. IMO new drivers can learn a ton in the rain, more so than in the dry. I personally love doing DE's when it's raining.
Glad you had a great time! My most fun session ever on track (aside form racing) was at CMP in the pouring rain last year. There was only about 6 or 7 cars on track and we had a blast. Really makes you work on car control. I think our times were only about 5-10 seconds a lap slower (depending on level of downpour). We were actually disappointed when the sun came out and the ran stopped
It is NOT the PCA minimum standards that are sufficient, it is the TRACKS required level of safety that takes precedent. It was brought to my attention at our local meeting this past weekend when a member signed up with a CAB that does not have a rollbar and I contacted the PCA region putting on the event to make sure and get word out to entrants that ALL convertibles must have a rollbar. Ask me how I found out. At CMP it is sufficient as they do NOT require a rollbar but VIR does. I ended up putting a rollbar in my CAB until I decided that the track mods were making my CAB no longer fun on the street. This is why we ended up adding the GT3 to the garage
VIR requires a horizontal-top roll bar for DEs. The do not allow dual hoop-type roll bars, by the reasoning that they will dig into the dirt in a rollover accident and risk injury to the driver. They probably have a very good point.
At least Porsche cabs have structural roll bars to begin with- think of the poor miata and S2000 guys!
S2000's have rolled with no driver damage (except for the normal cuts and bruises), they attach on two planes with fairly thick bars. The problem with S2000's is the height of the hoops. A Miata.. well...
VIR's actual rule, at least the last two years, is a rollbar that securely mounts to two planes and has a sufficient height to allow a straight line between the top of the bar and the top of the window frame through which the drivers and passengers heads, with helmets on, will not pass. (ie, the broomstick test).
