the worst part is that there is nothing i can do..the last time i renewed my license they almost arrested me on the spot because of a bench warrant.

Might be for the best, I mean now that the new owner of this board is a faceless publicly traded corporation, I don't think my check will make a difference anymore!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, it was a nice sunny day today. I pull out of my drive and putter down to the freeway like I usually do. Get to the on ramp and make a right.
To my surprise there are no cars on the ramp. Woo hoo! I punch it about half way for about 2 seconds, then let off the gas to merge into traffic (the ramp is a straight upward slope). I started to chuckle to myself, "damn i love the way this car sounds".
2 seconds later, lights and sirens.
CHP is behind me now yelling at me. Pull over! Turn the car off! Put your windows down! Put your hands in the air! Higher! This is not a joke! (At that point I had put them up and started flapping them) Next thing I know Officer Velasquez is pulling me out of the car and putting me in cuffs. Why? Because I rolled thru the red light when I made a right and, "I was driving the car like I had stolen it" so he had to verify who owned it.
Now 2 things about Mr Velasquez, first it seems that the CHP has dropped their weight requirements, and second he must really hate Porsches, cause he had something to prove this morning.
Funny that I have now gotten pulled over more times in this 996 than in my ENTIRE driving career (including my teens). And I'm not a wreckless driver. Oh well, another tax write-off for me.
I'm going suggest a new code for LE. DIP (driving in Porsche).
Yeah, red-light roll-on is an easy money resource for the city... Near my house there is an intersection with cameras and my friend got caught on camera 2 times for not fully stopped at the red-light before turning right. I guess he did this within a week or something before receiving the citations in the mail. So be careful, I am sure we all had those roll-on at the lights before... Cheers,
WOW
That's absolutely wild that he cuffed you. As for litigation, I would focus on beating the ticket, LAPD/CHP are impossible to crack (even with a videotape) for liability
BTW does anyone else see my signature? seems to have disappeared when I look at it
I go away for a little while and everyone's got delusions of grandeur!
But seriously, good call guys the subscription thing must be it, I guess I let it lapse over the holidays without realizing. Might be for the best, I mean now that the new owner of this board is a faceless publicly traded corporation, I don't think my check will make a difference anymore!
and sorry more OT: Out of curiosity, how many of you renewed since John D sold?
BTW post 911
Agree that this officer of the law took this benign matter too seriously...Man, I would be freaking out with cuffs and stuff. Your car did not get towed away, right? Then he released you after checking things out on the spot?
Actually I am a cracker w/ short hair and casual business attire.
Funny that every time I watch cops I think that I would freak out if I got cuffed and stuffed. But actually it was no problem. I was pretty darn comfortable with the whole thing. Now if they touched the car I would have been upset.
I was only "detained" on the side of the freeway. And yes I got released with a ticket for doing a California Rolling Stop and having tinted windows (a fix it).
Wow... CHP on a surface street? Must have been bored... You can't blame him for the cuffs - like you said, the way you drove it he probably had cause to suspect that it might have been stolen... I know if someone jacked mine I'd want the same treatment applied... Sorry to hear it happened to you... SDPD isn't too bad, neither is La Mesa... but look out for the Escondido guys... oh yeah - and off-duty Coronado cops...
Rudy
You need to keep a box of donuts in the car to toss out the window as a distraction. Kind of like an F16 popping chaff & flares when a missile locks on.
I can see it now, ADD as a Porsche option (Auto-Donut-Dispenser)
You can absolutely blame him for the cuffs! The guy's a jack-off.
Do everyone else in CA a favor and call CHP and at least log some kind of complaint against this guy.
No reason to put you in cuffs because you were driving fast.
He needs to do better than that.
CHP are normally extremely professional, this guy sounds like one of the cops from that town in Alabama driving "seized" sports cars.....
That guy has no business being with CHP....
Near courthouse and police station and film various police and court officers roll through right hand turn lights or stop signs.
Shouldn't take you more than a couple of hours if you stake out the intersection during the morning "rush" hour.
Show up in court and play tape.
I live near police station and city offices and see cops cars and other cars that park in "reserved" spaces roll though stop signs as the police cars leave the "barn" every day or as employes arrive on my morning walk or bike ride to get newspapers.
Sincerely,
Macster.
With the economy being the way it is, I think that any display of wealth, and to many people a Porsche is a display of wealth, will be greated by some with hostility. Some poor guy is struggling to meet his mortgage payments, and then he sees a guy driving a $100K Porsche. Of course most of us paid far less for our cars, but I believe the general perception is that Porsches are extraordinarily expensive, and they are owned only by the wealthy. I have to believe that the cop would have reacted far differently if the car were a Mercury Sable instead of a Porsche.
Officer A-Hole Velasquez. What a jerk!
I was pulled over for a "rolling" 4-way stop near a school. What a nit-picky infraction! I had every intention of fighting the his subjective point of view, but my wife was too scared to have the prosecutor grill her, so she backed out. I asked the cop if he had his dash-board camera on. He replied "no". Not to mention, he was 200+ yards away from the 4-way stop signs. I had every intention of pulling the "My Cousin Vinny" routine, where what's his name gets out a tape measure and asks the lady how many fingers he was holding up. I would hold up a wheel and roll it side to side... heeheheh
Good luck with the fight.
I plan on fighting this by mail, and never having to take a minute off of work to go to court. For those of you who live in CA check out

This enables me to fight the ticket from my couch, and if I lose I am still entitled to my day in court. Plus, Mr Velasquez will not be getting any overtime pay from my case.
This was in the San Gabriel Valley.
Pdog,
I think I need a weiner dog sitting out of the sunroof like R2-D2. "See if you can get control of that fire weenie!"
He's got a lock on me! Hit the ADD!
it does not sound as if the cuffs are obviously justifiable based on driving too fast because if you had been driving too fast i'm assuming based on your description that he would have given you a ticket for that as well. so his stated justification does not make a lot of sense. and it is not reasonable to assume that everybody driving a porsche is a thief. i doubt it is standard procedure to put a traffic stoppee in cuffs. does being a cop necessarily mean you can cuff anybody who rolls through a stopsign in a porsche? could cuffing someone under these circumstances amount to unlawful imprisonment? you could consult a lawyer on these questions, and even whether you have grounds to sue the CHP for this cop's actions. hoping you can find a lawyer you like cuz it does not seem that they could all be useless.
I appreciate your support.
Clearly he was F***ing with me, but he covered his *** when he came up with the BS about his "suspicion" that it might be stolen. It's kind of like pulling a minority out of their car and telling them that "someone who fits their description just committed a crime".
Unless he beat me down AND caused crippling injuries AND someone got it all on tape, I got no case. Not worth my time.
hey med its the new intake that is getting you in trouble. dont feel bad a couple of months ago i got a speeding ticket for going 10MPH over the limit on a local road. to make matters even worse i have a mistaken identity issue with another guy who has the same name and birthdate, month date and year, like mine. that other person is a real trouble maker and has a long arrest record. i have to carry a special identification document issued by the police dept. which states that I am not that individual. i need to have this on me at all times in the event i get pulled over. i have had several bench warrants for my arrest because of this. the worst part is that there is nothing i can do..the last time i renewed my license they almost arrested me on the spot because of a bench warrant. i had to go to court and get the charges dropped.
You're right! I made too much noise going up the ramp. I should charge you for this damn ticket.
That identity thing must suck. I hope that guy doesn't ever get a hit put on him.
I like the CF trim in the interior pic. Do you have more throughout the cabin? I'm currently dreaming of trading my black center console for an aluminum look or exterior colored one via BumperPlugs (yet another thing on my wish list).
I think that CF is good only in moderation. So I will stick to the e-brake and up the control panel.
I would like to put in a Pioneer Avic DVD/GPS system. But not now.
The rest of the accents are all silver metallic. I have sport seats w/ Pcrest in the Headrests. Currently the backs of the seats are black, not sure if I will paint them or leave them alone.
Eric does great work, but if money is tight, why not paint the console yourself? Or pay a local shop to do it.
You should have pointed out that the thing is an AUTOMATIC!
I get a little nervous at cars with dark tint,--I can see why they pulled you over. Where did the tint come from? Another state?
He saw the automatic, cause in cuffs I couldn't even get my own insurance and registration. Lol
I put the tint on. I tint all my cars, always have. I don't want people to see into my car.
In 20 yrs only 2 tint citations. The last one was a fix-it ticket. I peeled off the tint myself, showed it to the sheriff, and then called the guy to come put it back on.
Doesn't such a dark tint affect your vis at night? When in another state years ago I HAD to do it to reduce the summer temps, but it came at a night time visibility price.
Med, do you have limo tint all around or something?
I usually have dark tint on the rear windows and light tint (a shade darker than technically legal in CA) on the front windows.
I have never been hassled by any of the cops that have stopped me for speeding.
Not that I've ever been stopped for speeding, or caught by air patrol, nor by a female BMW-riding CHP, and certainly never twice in one day.
once when I was in my 20's I got 3 tickets from the same cop in 3 days. He waited on the raods I took out of town and busted me for stupid things.. even got one for doing the speed limit, but it was raining and the ticket was for "speed too fast for conditions" another for failure to comply with posted sign, and the first was a taillight that I fixed right away....
in hind sight I should have taken them to court and fought them, but I just let them go and learned to hold a grudge.....
