I have an Evo intake on both my 986 and 996 and it's definately one of the best "mods" I've installed on either car.

Suggestion

I won't get dragged into that argument, but I will point out that almost every team running a 996 or 997 in Grand Am cup competition uses the EVO intake and race teams don't generally install mods that don't work for "bling" reasons.

Suggestion

You might consider the Porsche Sport Exhaust, which gives you a button on the dash to quiet the muffler when you want (but is overkill for those who'd run straight pipes if they could).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I've done a lot of research and spoken to enough people to become "dangerious"; but I'll throw my Q's out here too. After all the above I'm putting a set of TUBI Muffles on my car and I'm having my ECU flashed with a GIAC performance software upgrade. Here are my Q's: 1) For those who have done this were they happy w\the results? 2) I wanted to do "something" with my AIrbox but I was talked out of it with the idea that the factory box was pretty good and the risk/rewards were not worth it - comments? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Welcome to Rennlist. I can't comment on the Tubi or the GIAC mods, because I have no first hank knowledge of them. However, I would not put an after market CAI on a 911. The OEM air box takes in more air than the engine can swallow, so what's the point? Plus, some that use oiled filters have/can cause damage to the MAF (Mass Air Flow sensor). At the very least, the MAF gets coated with oil and it triggers a CEL (Check Engine Light.) Last, most CAI systems actually pull some of the air from the hot engine bay, which makes me ask, how is that a COLD Air Intake? It is customary for Newbies to 1) introduce themselves, 2) tell us a little about their car, and 3)post pics of the car. So consider the next sentence as your "Newbie Initiation" hazing. Come on Newbie, post the !@#%^&* pics! Once again, welcome to the Phunny Pharm!

I can't comment on the tubi, but I'd reconsider the "airbox" side of your mods. I have an Evo intake on both my 986 and 996 and it's definately one of the best "mods" I've installed on either car. You can run a search (that will yield hundreds of pages) for opinions about if it really adds power or not. I won't get dragged into that argument, but I will point out that almost every team running a 996 or 997 in Grand Am cup competition uses the EVO intake and race teams don't generally install mods that don't work for "bling" reasons. What I will say is that if you don't believe the power claims the sound the evo produces (especially in the 986) is glorious. It also has the added benefit of being much lighter than the stock box. Good luck with your mods.

POST 6Original post

Ray, It looks like you and I have to agree to disagree on CAI units. That's OK, 'cuz diversity of likes/dislikes and alternative opinions is what makes Rennlist a great forum! Probably the one area that we do agree upon is the "alleged HP gains" for these units. If 7 to 12+ HP was that easy to get, I believe Porsche would already be there. It's all good.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have never taken a picture of my car o I can't pot one now, but when it stops snowing in MA and I put it back on the road in May I'll add one. So I see that the disaggrement that' in my head actually is being played out in writting here. Ont he one hand you've got german engineering getting the most out of the car's engine in therory yet there's the old addage of more air and more tuned fuel makes more power. I'll go to the EVO web site to check it out....

POST 8Original post

Some aftermarket exhausts can be a bit much for top-down driving in some situations. You might consider the Porsche Sport Exhaust, which gives you a button on the dash to quiet the muffler when you want (but is overkill for those who'd run straight pipes if they could).

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looked into the Porsche Sport exhausts but, gee what a surprise, they wanted $ 4,600 for them; at that price I wasn't interested. The after market stuff like B&B and Fabspeed I think I'd agree with you, hence why I didn't go in there direction. Conversly I've heard good stuff about sound from the TUBI stuff and my Porsche dealer said they've put them on for customers and have heard really good feedback...
