Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm going to be in Las Vegas next week and I'll have a few days to kill. I don't really gamble, and I'm not really into shows. I've seen most of the typical Vegas attractions before. So I thought I'd rent a car. Probably a Lotus Elise. I don't know the area so I need ideas for a day trip or maybe and overnight trip. Something that would be less than 300 miles round trip. The destination isn't that important as long as my wife is entertained. I just want a curvy road. I've been living in FL for nearly 2 years and I'm jonesing for some real curves. I can't find one real curve in the whole place. Anyone in the area know where I can find a big deserted parking lot? If you know the area what would you do if you had a Lotus for a day or two?

POST 2Original post

Not sure of the best roads to take, but you could get a nice trip to the Hoover Dam, about 1 hour direct, and then there are some more nice roads out there. Plus you can drive across the dam, pretty cool, just don't get wet.

POST 3Original post

You could head out to the Valley of Fire state park.

+1 and if you want to extend it, you can also head up to Zion National Park in Utah. My wife and I did both in a day trip.

POST 7Original post

I rented a car recently when I traveled to Vegas from Florida. The 996 red cabriolet was sadly tortured by those who drove it prior. Ut sort-of limped to the Hoover Dam and back. I would suggest carefully looking at the car before you rent it - especially if you are going to spend upwards of $300 per hour, might as well get a new one in great condition. Regarding curves in Florida, I would suggest the Ocala area. There are many nice curves in cannopied areas with (believed it or not) small hills.

POST 8Original post

Couper, Drive out towards Red Rock. Makes a great scenic tour. I ended up driving my rented Vette out into the desert. Nothing but open road . Made the Autobahn look like a surface street. Just take care if you do, offramps are like a gazillion miles apart to make a u tuirn

POST 10Original post

Couper: + 1 on the Valley of Fire. Recommend you do a loop: I 15 one way, then North Shore Scenic Drive back. If your wife likes scenery, she'll enjoy it, and there's lots of curves for you.

POST 11Original post

fyi--all the exotic rental places i know of in vegas limit you to 50-100 miles per day, depending on the car.

POST 12Original post

go to a gun range and fire off a thousand rounds of fully automatic weaponry.

Did that last time. Uzi and a Tommy. My wife insisted on having a target with a 'bad guy' on it.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the tips! Keep'em comin! Hoover Dam is the one dam place outside of vegas I've been. So far the plan is 'valley of fire' loop one day and 'somewhere to the west' the next. There are several places that rent the Elise in Vegas but "Rent-a-Vette" seems the most legit and they are the cheapest and they're site says the car is available on the days I want it. Anyone used them? $188 per day $.50 per mile over 100. Doesn't sound bad as long as there's not a ton of other fees. I'm gonna call them tomorrow. The plan is to have such a wonderful romantic weekend, and take lots of pictures of us with the car discreetly in the background, that it will be HER idea to buy one. (note to self; burn wonderful romantic weekend mix CD) Ain't I a stinker?

POST 15Original post

On my last trip to Vegas we took a Helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon. Highly recommend it if you haven't done this. I understand they also rent Lambos and Ferraris.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The heli ride is on the top of the list if the car rental doesn't pan out. I haven't looked at the prices yet though. The places I've looked at the Ferraris etc are much more to rent and I honestly think I'd enjoy the lotus or a cayman s more.

POST 17Original post

Valley of Fire (in on I15 out via the other end.) Red Rock Rec area. A driving loop thatif you go early on a weekday has the possibiliies of some fast driving. Go up the mountain ot Mt. Charleston ski area Hoover Dam because of the roads If you go to Zion the Virgin River Gorge entering Utah is a great section but relativly short and you need ot "share" with RVs/trucks. These 3-4 have the best driving but Nevada is not noted for great curving roads. Too many desert/straignt roads

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I told my wife I decided I wanted to rent a car and go to Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire on Fri and do the all day heli Grand Canyon tour on Sat. So she told me her parents decided I wanted to see Cirque Du Soleil one day and then spend half the other day on an interstate driving to Death Valley. WTF?!? I'm toast. I don't care if I plan a trip to MIR space station, the whole way there I'd hear how great Death Valley would've been. Her parents are coming to visit next month and I'm going to thank them by taking them on a site seeing drive into the Everglades. In the back of the 966. With the top down. ALL DAY!

POST 19Original post

Tell you "in-laws" that you want to take them water skiing behind a swamp boat (air boat) in the Everglades. Just don't tell them that is how the locals "troll for alligators."
