I got a repeat engine check light, rough running engine (at times), coolant smell(at times), oil leaks at 2 places, cab that didn't want to open all the way and had a hard time closing........

The repair also included a coil pack...60 bucks or so....

We all need a repair every now and then, even our beloved 911

there is no repair on the car really that would make it worth it to punt and get a new one.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Nearing the 10 year anniversary of my heavily modified 996 cab.... I got a repeat engine check light, rough running engine (at times), coolant smell(at times), oil leaks at 2 places, cab that didn't want to open all the way and had a hard time closing........ and I was contemplating using my 996 as a drive way ornament..... but then I felt that I was betraying myself and my P-car.
So recession/depression whatever.... to the independent Porsche repair shop ... I told them that I wasn't in a hurry and didn't need the car back for a while ( I am working an my backyard and need the driveway for wood deliveries ) and the shop took a full 7 days to come back with an estimate for the repairs... and like they read my mind.... about 1700 bucks..... leaking coolant reservoir (about $500), a leaking gasket somewhere (150) transmission leak somewhere ($500) oil change ($200) something else (forgot what) ($150) and a cab alignment fix ($200) I all sounded within reason so I kind of forgotten what they told me I just know that the shop owner is a honest guy and has a reputation to upkeep , he is a porsche lover with a large collection and never overcharged before. I just figured that after almost 4 years and hardly any maintenance, besides the usual tires, oil changes etc... I shouldn't cheap out and keep the P well taken care off..... so me and my crazy (almost) 2yr old daughter can enjoy the wind in our hair over the summer......
Ouch! Sorry to hear about the work, but the price doesn't seem so bad and we know that you love the car really... as you said, as the kids get older it will be easier to drive the car.
In the meantime, we'll just have to make you an honorary member of Phil's "I don't drive my Porsche" club.
Glad to hear you never got your asking price! Although I'd personally hide the repair bill from your wife! hahaha just kidding
I'm just glad to hear your daughter likes to ride in it now!
The repair also included a coil pack...60 bucks or so.... Car is still for sale, but don't think anybody will give me a reasonable price....so as long as I don't need the money.... I'll keep it.... now I have to wait for my new baby girl (3 weeks old) to be of "legal" age...meaning able to drive facing front!!
wise decisions IMO. I am going to keep the one i currently have until the wheels come off. the way i see it so far in the 3 years i have had my 997S it was to date needed a ssk adjustment because the shop messed up the install. it it continues to be this worry free then i will gladly spend the money when it does need repair. there is no repair on the car really that would make it worth it to punt and get a new one. There is nothing i like more than what i have, and even if I had to spring for a new engine i am out 10k and i keep driving it another 10 years.
Congrats! I didn't realize the second one had arrived already. Glad all went well... now, I know that you've seen the photo of both of my kinds in the car, so we need to get a similar photo taken of your car.
