Is this just a weird fluke from changing the oil pump pressure relief spring and valve?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I thought I was set to go for emissions but when I got there - It's now throwing catalyst code, but the secondary air pump code is gone.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just looking for a little advice - 1999 C2 Coupe, 135k miles, Manual (Big Maintenance Items Performed - LN IMS, RMS & Clutch & Flywheel Replaced, UAOS Installed, Water Pump Replaced, Radiators Cleaned, Starter and Y Cable Replaced, Alternator Voltage Regulator Replaced). The car runs great, the only small issue is that I couldn't pass emissions because of a pesky Secondary Air code in both bank 1 and 2. I changed the relay, vacuum lines, change-over valve, as well as the actual secondary air pump. The codes went away and the car seemingly ran well - but needed more miles on it before emissions testing. I stupidly decided to also change the oil pump spring and valve as easy project and potential upgrade. Topped off oil after the upgrade. I thought I was set to go for emissions but when I got there - It's now throwing catalyst code, but the secondary air pump code is gone. Of course - I still can't pass emissions. Is this just a weird fluke from changing the oil pump pressure relief spring and valve? Should I just go drive it some more and get the computer to flip over before another emissions test? I'm positive the engine runs smooth and clean and isn't a pollutant. Similarly, the previous owner told me he changed the downstream catalyst sensors (I have the receipt, and they look 'new'). I just want to drive peace-of-mind but this little nagging emissions stuff is driving me a little crazy. Are my cats truly gone, or is just a weird reading in the computer? Should I clear the codes and just drive?

POST 2Original post

Yes fully clear the codes and drive it. Sai has no effect on how well the engine runs. Let us know if any codes come back.

POST 3Original post

Some engine builders remove the SAI all-together. They take it off and "plug a few holes" and it's done. Since they reflash the ECU anyway, I imagine SAI just ceases to exist. I have no idea if this is OK in various states. YMMV

I definitely need it for my emissions tests here in Utah. I think ultimately I'm just running up against a vacuum leak of some kind. Gotta track it down and fix it!

POST 5Original post

Replace the MAF as well, if it has never been replaced, or clean it with the appropriate chemical

POST 6Original post

Is there a "Year Expire" limit on older cars or something like an exemption list due to Years Old in Utah? Curious. This sort of thing must drive people nuts moving from one state (low requirements) to another state (high requirements), or an impossible state (outlandish requirements for old cars). An offshoot of these "requirements" is there are fewer and fewer of "old cars" on the road, let alone low production numbers of certain car mfrs, so why the big deal? I have only seen 4 911-type cars, zero 996/997, and 3 Boxsters (no Caymans) in 18 years in SE Idaho. That 1 Copper Brown Metallic driven like a LOL, @ 1978 930 must have been a Terrible Polluter!!!! YMMV

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update: Not a MAF issue. I suspected it was a vacuum leak - decided to buy a smoke machine (Seemed like a useful tool I could use for other cars as well) - and I found 2 huge vacuum leaks (One from the brake booster, and one with some tubing that had cracked way back behind the alternator). Hoping to get those addressed and everything back together this weekend and get out for some driving to clear codes.
