Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have a bias towards "NEW" as compared to "USED", though.
Leading evidence: 'Use ", though' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'dozen times a year' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check book' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Has Porsche improved the block, or simply changed the engine nomenclature to correlate with the new model nomenclature?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ok, so the wife wanted me to get a GT3 to add to the stable and then my mind started to wander.............
I have probably narrowed it down to 4 cars. I guess I need to back up to how I went from GT3 to 4 cars? Simple....starting thinking what my 80-100K would buy. So I came to this:
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:
1. 996 GT3 ($85-100K depending on pre-owned condition)
2. 997 GT3 (no pricing or available date yet)
3. 996 TT ($70-90K CPO)
4. 997S ($80-90K new)
I have pretty much determined that I will spend b/t 80-100K on this newest member of the stable but can't figure out which I prefer. Of course, I prefer the 997GT3 but no pricing or release date kinda bums me out. My current thinking is the 997S, but I love the TT and GT3 996 models.
HELP!!!!! I am torn. And please do not give me just your rankings. I am looking for pros and cons to WHY the choice of one over the others exists.
THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT!!!!!
Cheers,
5. My car
or...
#1 GT3. Limited Production, fun to drive, what some consider pure porsche.
#3 996TT. You could Mod this baby and easily have 640-800hp.
997S, eh...still so close to the 996. I'd wait for the 997GT3 or Turbo if you want to go the 997 route.
# 1 Excellent for street and track.....
# 2 get in line and hope you brought your check book.....
# 3 Excellent for street use.... "Big ***"
# 4 No comment.....
One question is: What are you using it for?.......
Good Luck man, wish I was torn between those choices right now....

Kirb, ready for take-off..... Nice Avatar....
Great input, thanks Guys!
How did I know that Kirby would add #5
Looks like I should lean toward the 996GT3 b/c I go to the track quite often (not as much as most track junkies). Probably a dozen times a year. Besdies, the wife wants me to stop modding the 996CAB so she can have her own track car that isn't a hard core as a GT3 (she's addicted now) which is how I got in the situation to begin with!
What kinda of "few mods, mega rewards"??? Est. Cost? I do have to say the TT is VERY apealing to me but not sure I will dig the 4WD over the RWD of the GT3. Can't complain about either though!
OK. I'd start with the basics. $80K-$100K. For that money, no way to get a 997 GT3. The 996GT3 new would/is out of the budget, so certainly would a new 997GT3. You may or may not want it, but it's a moot point so don't even think about it.
Next question. Mostly track, or mostly street?
Mostly track, to me, it's obvious. The GT3 is very track capable out of the box, and can mature over time to an excellent track dedicated car. It is the best platform to start a track dedicated car among the choices you've given while still street drivable just in case you really want to take your time about it. The TT driven well is a fast SOB on the track, but IMHO limited as to future prospects of being a true dedicated track car.
Mostly street, I would have a hard time between a used TT and a new 987S. I have a bias towards "NEW" as compared to "USED", though. Not just new, but improved over the old, which the 997 is relative to 996 when it comes to GT street driving character.
That's what I'd do. Almost did, too
. I'll probably be in the same boat in about three years, mulling over a used 997TT or a new 998GT3.
How to choose between 997S and 996TT (GT3 not in consideration for me)...
For those who think the 997S is "close" to the standard 996, doesn't the 350 hp on the 997S create a noticeable difference over the 320 hp 996?
And wouldn't the 997S be more enjoyable as an every-day commuter than the TT because the TT is heavier and geared more toward top-end speed (which you cannot enjoy much during standard commutes)?
Obviously track use is very important to you.
With 12 track events yearly, those events would be more enjoyable in a 996 GT3 than a Turbo: less weight, rwd, high-revving normally aspirated power vs low-rev turbo grunt. Tons of racing mods available for GT3, you could continually mod as your driving skills dictate.
As for the 997S for track duty: electronic suspension and electronic assisted steering; I would think you would prefer a 966 GT3 with conventional suspension and steering for any track duty.
Turbo would be better daily driver than GT3, IMHO, due to low-end torque and all-weather capability. As others have indicated, tons of reasonably priced hp upgrades available for the Turbo also. 997S should be EXCELLENT daily driver; however, GT3 and Turbo do not have M96 engines (a plus), 997S does.
Do you use your 911 as a daily driver? My quandry would lie in what compromise to strike between street and track. That you have the 996 Cab for traveling could be a factor. If you drive the ML as a daily driver could be a factor. How much would you drive the new 911 on the street?
Is the block the same as the m96 block? Has Porsche improved the block, or simply changed the engine nomenclature to correlate with the new model nomenclature?
The m97 block is not the block used in GT3, Turbo, and GT2, but based on the m96 block, correct?
Wow! Great input from all. Truly appreciated
Looks like my choice is going to be 996GT3. Since I want the best track car my money will buy then that is the smartest route to go. And though the 996CAB will still be in the stable and it is modded....it is nowhere near a dedicated track car (which is my we put the RoWM030 on it--great for both street and track).
The ML is going away in the next coming months but repalced by another SUV (955S).
I figured that most of the insight everybody would offer would bring me back to the orginal choice but I wanted to make sure I wasn't just getting it to get it but rather being a bit more informed.
Cheers,
you want a gt cruiser that you can take to the track - > TT
you want a nimble track car for the street with some compromise in comfort -> 996GT3
you can up your budget to 120K -> 997 gt3
you want stability aids, newest looks and power close to the 996gt3 ->997S
if it was up to me, i would get a dedicated track car like a radical sr3
but if it has to be a porsche then 996gt3. i'm not the type who can wait for a 997gt3. you'll have to wait a couple of years after it is released before it dips down below 100K... although you can always lease.
