This is not a probability of success.

When you get UAOS with Track Drain, don't forget to also replace the 996 oil return tubes with 997 oil return tubes #997 107 016 00, about $29/ea.

No but i extended the tabs on the mine when i had it and it worked well.
hey all! I'm getting ready to jump back into 911s, and I have my eye on 996 this time, ideally something that i can convert into a reasonable track car, and i would love to see examples and suggestions on how people build them, and what the best routes are. I don't want to convert it into a full on racecar (I already have one that's trailer only), but something that i can legally drive to and from the track whenever needed.
thanks all!
You will have your own challanges with the m96 motor but luckily the aftermarket uaos (with drain back upgrade] and a decent pan allows u to have enough oil in the motor to combat most if the issues. A lot if fun to be had in this platform.

As far as the motor UAOS and a Hartech deep sump. 15w50 300v oil
Ask me anything.
I have a 2002 996.2 that I have been tracking since 2004.
As the guys have mentioned, there are two key things you gotta upgrade to combat oil pressure instability/starvation on your engine to make the M96 track worthy.
1. Upgrade your AOS to the UAOS with the track drain.
2. Upgrade your sump to a 2qt deep sump or to the industrial strength UIDS.
Plenty of other things to do, but these two are the big ones.
Don't Forget:
When you get UAOS with Track Drain, don't forget to also replace the 996 oil return tubes with 997 oil return tubes #997 107 016 00, about $29/ea. They get the oil back to the sump faster, standard part replaced in top-tier engine builds.
YMMV
