I think I will investigate RoW M030 and take the 987 for a test drive

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 99 C2 right now and I used to have a boxster which I much preferred the handling on. three options from a cost and performance perspective. I would be trading in my 996 on all but the boxster option. I have a 6 - 12 month timescale Option 1. Buy a 996 TT Option 2. Buy a 987 and keep my C2 Option 3. Buy a 996 cab and a Cayman 'S' My maximum cost needs to be about $80k

POST 4Original post

I think a '02 or '03 996TT is the ticket, if certified or with meaning term remaining factory warranty....like you, the new Cayman seems to good to be true.......But may be best to wait until prices settle down and the first year "bugs" are dealt with

POST 5Original post

Supposedly, it is the same M96 3.4 ala early 996 with 1" drop engine mounts pioneered by Ruf in the Cayman S.

POST 6Original post

#3 is WAY out of your budget. What are you looking to accomplish? If you don't like 996 handling, then a TT won't make you much (any?) happier. If you are looking for more straight line HP, having a Boxster and an early 996 won't help you. Just a suggestion, why don't you consider supercharging and suspension additions to your car? Spend $25k and have a virtual supercar.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

option 3 pricing is pretty much dependant on depreciation on the cayman a year after launch and where 996 cab prices will be at that point. You can get the cheapest worst cabs for under 30k now, so in a years time it should be possible to get a reasonable 2000 model for 30k-35k. admittedly, this is all conjecture I guess with the turbo my expectation is to have a car which doesn't have the 4x4 look to it and has a sportier handling set up which would go some way to eradicate the 'fat lard ***' feel my c2 has to it. of course another option is to go with either the ROW stock or ROW sports suspension on my car. I'm not too worried about straight line oomph, in fact, if they released a non-'s' version of the cayman I would probably be content with that perfomance. since I moved to Tennessee from grey chilly England it seems a waste not to have a convertible of some kind, and my wife would also get more pleasure driving also I may well upgrade the suspension on my C2 and get a 987 non 's' boxster in jan/feb next year

POST 8Original post

Put RoW M030 on your C2 so it will look and handle like Porsche intended or just get another Boxster if you miss it so much.

POST 9Original post

hey buddy, how are the wheels? ;-) I, like you, prefer the boxster for handling, and loved the 987 loaner I had a few weeks ago. I went with the 996 C4 cab, and have found it to be much more useful than the boxster, as I will be able to put a child seat in it, and have more useable room for road trips (but I do miss the boxster trunks). I still have my boxster, but who knows what's wrong with it now, sounds like a wiring MESS. anyway, I digress.... I would decide if I want one car or two. If I could get two, I would do a 986s or 987 and a C4 cab. if you just want one car, I would do a c4 cab and hold the $ until the 987 prices fall. the c4 cab still doesn't feel like the boxster, but has loads of guts. you could also throw a 3.4l into a boxster, as a few folks have. I could imagine that would be sweet. cheers....E

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

the wheels are great thanks, although I think I have a suspension issue upfront that causes the steering wheel to shift minutely at 70 mph upwards (up to at least 140mph ). All I need to add now is the Boothe silver crest caps I did have an altercation in Kentucky last weekend that necessitated expenses of $1300 which was a complete bummer. Especially as the reason for travel was a washout (US grand prix) I'm not sure I can justify 2 convertibles, especially as my wife is getting a 330ci convertible at some point. I think I will investigate RoW M030 and take the 987 for a test drive

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I swerved to miss a shredd 18 wheeler tire and ran over what I thought was a small strip of rubber. anyway, weird noise enused so i pulled over thinking i got a flat. after checking the tire pressures and having to deal with a state trooper who conversation with my wife went something like this: trooper: "is this the car where the spoiler goes up automatically" wife: "errr, yes?!) trooper: "huh-huh (beavis and butthead style) coooool" me: "er yeah, it goes up at 60 MPH" (kentucky speed limit is 65) anyway, no flat. continue on my way. More weird noises occur and I pull into a gas station in Bowling Green look under the car and find a foot long peice of twisted metal under the car lodged in some cables. I think '****', remove the metal and mentally steel myself for nursing the car back to nashville. I pull out the back of the gas station and almost immediately i lose power steering, so i pull into the front of thebas station where my car promptly spills its guts on the floor (power steering fluid not oil thankfully) we call AAA who then tells us that our membership is not valid as apparently our card did not go through when I renewed it last year. WTF???? thats a load of BS, not my fault of one of their non-english speaking employees messed up. apparently there are no car rental companies open in southern kentucky on a saturday so I have to get a friend to pick us up, take us back to nashville, get the other car and start the journey up to indy again. BAD WEEKEND
