These really are pretty nice, and compared to the ones that the PO had installed (which weren't even hubcentric) they are awesome.

After much back and forth the supplier has agreed to replace the spacers with 6.5" OD units at no additional cost.

FWIW, I've bought generic spacers and then bought a set for the other car that had the hubcentric lip built in along with the set screw to hold the spacer onto the hub.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I ordered some 15 mm wheel spacers for the front of my 996 from an E-Bay supplier who promote themselves as "Made in USA". The spacers are only 6" OD and don't fit the hub properly. They assure me that they are safe and are refusing to give me a refund, but want me to pay extra for 6.5" OD spacers plus shipping the 6" OD spacers back and shipping the replacements to me.
I offered to ship them back for a full refund, but they are refusing to refund me.
I don't think these are safe, A large part of the rim contact area will be unsupported and I am concerned about the stress on the rims and overall safety.
What do you think? Would you have these on your car?
Did they misrepresent the size of the spacer in their ad? Do they typically charge more for the larger spacer? I'm trying to figure out where the "error" occurred. Was there a misunderstanding on your part or did they sell you something that was actually different than what was shipped?
As for using them, I wouldn't use those on my car. They don't fit the hub properly.
-Eric
I wouldn't use them - did you pay with PayPal? See if you can work with them to get your money back. I've had good luck with that in the past as recourse against damaged or incorrect parts.
I don't like the locations of the holes on those spacers either -- they're very close to the edge of the metal. Is that what they looked like in the eBay ad? Can you provide us with a link to the original eBay auction?
-Eric
After much back and forth the supplier has agreed to replace the spacers with 6.5" OD units at no additional cost. I am paying the return freight for the under-sized spacers, so I am paying more than I had planned.
At no time was there any mention that the spacers were 6" OD and no images on their site looked anything like these. I think the holes are too near the edge as well and was not at all happy that they did not fit the hub right. They insisted that they had sold thousands of these to Porsche owners and that they were safe but there was no way I was going to have them on my car.
I have had pretty good luck with Ebay purchases in general and do buy a lot of stuff off Ebay. I did pay via PayPal but wanted to work things out with the seller rather than create a dispute.
Yes, I got the longer bolts.
I thank you all for your input. I wasn't comfortable using them and we seem be in agreement.
I'd be weary of any spacers...but if I had to...it would be a VERY WELL KNOWN brand and nothing else. Your life and your car depend on those round rubber things staying safely attached.
Discount tire won't touch a car w/spacers if that tells you something. (Liability)
I just bought some from Ebay but they haven't arrived yet. Hopefully they aren't the same ones. I'm going to go back and research the items a bit more now...I don't remember a diameter listed either. I'm expecting them to arrive today.
thats just silly talk
Porsche sends cars out the door from the factory with spacers...and FWIW a thin spacer could be made out of plastic and still work (although I am only saying and would never do that) about any aluminum machined well will work...but it needs to support the entire surface
and many many many full blown race cars have spacers - some rather huge ones!
just saying - pretty sure spacers have been proven to work OK and there is no real issue just in the use of spacers as long as they fit correctly
FWIW, I've bought generic spacers and then bought a set for the other car that had the hubcentric lip built in along with the set screw to hold the spacer onto the hub. I will never go back to the generic plain ones again. The spacer and hub lip makes a world of difference if you are changing or installing your wheels yourself.
I put my new spacers on this weekend and I'm pretty pleased with the product. They were $88 a pair for 1" thickness, plus 18 for shipping. Just under $200 for the car. I was a little skeptical when I saw this thread, but these fit just fine. Here is the link - (no affiliation). These are Hub-centric.

But when you think about it, they're just a big chunk of metal with 5 bolts sticking out. Throw a chunk of aluminum on a CNC machine with a solid computer model and you'll get the same product that H+R sells. Don't forget that you are also paying more for the name. These really are pretty nice, and compared to the ones that the PO had installed (which weren't even hubcentric) they are awesome. I knew I was taking a chance with ebay, but this time I think it paid off. I'll post some pics later.
