Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Replace helmet' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace helmet' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
After lurking for quite a while, I decided to take the plunge and to post.
Before the questions a quick intro. I'm living in Switzerland and a P-car addict for almost as long as I can remember. I'm the happy owner of two P-cars: number 1 is a SWB from 1968 (it's an L with a the 2.0L carb engine). This one's for week-end pleasure and classic meetings. Number 2 is a MY98 3.4L 996 (was available in Europe at this time). It's a high mileage car (184k km, 115k miles) with original engine and trans ! This one's mainly for track use, in fact I'm in the process of making her a pure track car, thus my questions, since I know some of you guys think a 996 can be a decent track car. BTW I'm not trying to build a "GT3 clone", it's just for fun !
Do you retain the A/C system ? We enjoy here a milder (cooler) climate (than in the USA) most of the time and I have noticed a leak on the driver side of the return a/c lines that I'd have to repair.
Do you remove the bumper reinforcement things ? I have a "Cup like" front tow hook waiting for a slit in the bumper. This DIY hook is compatible with the "street" parts but I feel it's un-needed weight on the track.
Do you keep the handbrake ? Mostly unuseful for a track car, isn't it ? The thing gets in the way of the shifter cables when the shifter is raised if you don't raise it too and when it's raised... well it's raised !
The list of the mods already done is long, especially since I don't race the car and there's no limit except for what's on my bank account of course
. There are more mods waiting such as: new motor mounts, new subframe bushings, new fixed wing, GT3 front arms (on order) and, and and...
One last word for all the contributors to this forum: thank you for the informations I gathered and for your enthousiasm.
Stephen
Are you going to only track the car or will it still be driven on the street? I favor safety first and go fast parts second. Install a cage, race seats, harness, etc first. Then stirp it for weight reduction. I can email you a part/cost sheet for a SPEC996 build for ideas.
It all depends on how far you want to go with this, be glad to help you with ideas.
Hello TRT41,
The car is a track only, goes to the tracks on a trailer. Safety comes first, no second thought about that ! I've changed the seats, added a rollover cage (full cage is a 2012 project) and 6 pts harnesses. There's a FE just in case, you never know. I've changed my helmet for a HANS compatible one. The HANS should arrive for my birthday, and I've a new suit !
She's mostly empty by now, but there's still some weight savings opportunities without compromising safety. If you can email me (PM activated) the SPEC996 list you mentioned, I'll appreciate.
Take care.
