Suspected cause
I think it was the crappiest car I've ever driven.

I bet that 99.9% of luxo-performance car guys who might buy one but would never even consider it, could possibly be swayed by a good long test drive as you apparently were.

550hp, with a very easy ot use car, it only miss the 4 wheel drive, to avoid the constant wheel spin.

at what point does safety become stupid and we just make the window out of metal and use a CRT?LCD screen to see out??

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have had the opportunity to play with this 2011 CTS-V Manual for a few days..
This car is amazing, I have driven the CTS-V sedans but never a 6 speed one and what a difference. Car is a pleasure to drive, crazy fast and build quality feels like an Audi. GM makes a bunch of cars these days that I think are pretty damn good but this thing is just a blast! 556hp! The car just makes it all so easy.
Only complaints, shifter feels a little rubbery and the exhaust could be a little louder but the Recaro seats, Alcantara wheel and shifter feel damn good.
Sorry, I know it's off topic but thought you guys might be amused by it.
I know some folks first reflex is to knock a GM product but I dare any "Car guy or gal" to knock it after driving it.
Perfect, no... but damn it's fun and rewarding to drive.
Is it the perspective or is that car almost the size of the Pepper behind it? Personally I've been intrigued by what Caddy has been doing with their V series cars. Not sure I would ever buy one, but they certainly do have a interesting appeal to them. Thanks for some insight on this American performance automobile.
Glad you enjoyed it. The Corvette crowd may get really excited. My dad may like it, oh...wait, he's too old to drive. (JK) My dad did have a '51 Caddy when I was in preschool, and to this day I've thought of them as old mens cars.
one of the things that is killing me is the way the side impact requirements are forcing MFG's to keep raising the metal in the door to the point my wife can not see out of the car side windows
at what point does safety become stupid and we just make the window out of metal and use a CRT?LCD screen to see out??
I know they are great cars, thanks for sharing Marc.
Just like the Europeans have the reqmt for the front hood height.
But seriously the car would look better imho if the shoulder line was just about 5" lower to give it a bit sleeker profile.
I'm sure they're a blast to drive, ha.
Perhaps they should expand that sales strategy. I bet that 99.9% of luxo-performance car guys who might buy one but would never even consider it, could possibly be swayed by a good long test drive as you apparently were.
So what's the program?
what - trade your Porsche for a Caddy week?
and Ride, what chu talkin' bout - I am a diehard GM fan first car was a GMC and still have a Chevy, always been good to me
I don't like the rear-endage. A bit too hatchback.
Plus, the American sized depreciation hit for the life of the car always keeps me far away from buying anything new from the US car comps. It's Japanese or German cars for me atm.
I recently went on business travel and got a 2010 Chevy Malibu rental car. I think it was the crappiest car I've ever driven.
The problems:
It would lose 5 mph with the cruise control (only doing 60) in slow rolling hills
Turn radius was worse than my 96 F150 8' bed; I had to back up to get into normal parking spots.
The best thing was paddle shifters for the 5 speed automatic (insert sarcasm here).
GM has really hit a low, no wonder they had to get bailed out by the American people, producing crap like this for an entry level car.

It would be good marketing to get guys like us into these cars to see how far they have come but unfortunately there is no program I know of.
I get to drive many GM cars due to a consulting deal I have.
Probably driven just about every damn GM car but this is one I had to post about.
And obviously I am a die hard Porsche and European car guy and I am not going to defend GM but someone mentioned depreciation, I cant imagine GM cars deprecate much faster than a Porsche these days and quality.... IMS, RMS... you get the idea. All cars have issues.
This CTS made me feel good that American car companies can get it right, they have come so far. 10 years ago I would not thought it possible.
I loved the old style CTS-V back in 2004 but it was an unrefined brute.
Don't knock this car on preconceived notions, in the past I would have for sure.
awe boy
so on one level I totally agree... the longer I drive P-cars the more I look at other cars in discust and think to myself, POS! and point out things I dont like. That said most all of my american "cars" were worthless, but I am a truck owner and the american trucks are perfect in some ways...and my suburban is no exception. i would take it over any other SUV for many reasons (and not some you might think of) like, I prefer a little rougher paint, I dont want it to "shine" and I like that my electronics have ghosts, it makes it interesting and the kids think its funny...it not fancy, it just moves people, dogs and gear...
Thanks but I will keep on buying american even if they are only "mostly" american
I much prefer the sedan. There are a few of them at my gym in the morning.
The coupe rear end looks like the desginer failed geometry.
The sedan lets you carry kids/passengers/dogs in a 556 hp missle.
GM has definately stepped up the build quality on these cars.
Would I buy it over a new M3? that would be a difficult decision.
But the fact that my decision would be difficult means that GM is making progress.
Now the new Camaro? no, I hate that car.
Funny you mention the 2004 CTS-V. IIRC, that's the mainly black on black CTS-V that still had the blocky GM dashboard, 400hp, and crazy rear wheel-hop.
Me, and all of my similar car-minded friends, would always look at them on ebay, etc, and say - "should I get one? 400 hp for so cheap! A four door Vette." Then research it further, see the dashboard, learn about the wheel-hop, wonder how fast it would continue to depreciate, and then end up buying a used 911...
But I agree, Caddy has come a long way. It probably began with the Escalade. That SUV may have saved the brand (before gas/fiscal-crisis).
Marc - Off-topic, but do you get more compliments in your Aero or Targa nowadays??? Just curious. I am now stuck between getting an MKII cab, or an 87-ish cab? The latter is probably done depreciating.
I had the chance to drive the sedan CTS-V, it is just fantastic. The auto gearbox is so good, you barely need the manual. SO much torque that any gear will just do.
550hp, with a very easy ot use car, it only miss the 4 wheel drive, to avoid the constant wheel spin.
I love the cts-v, totally under the radar !
I think the coupes look good in the pictures.. never seen one up close.. but at nearly 4000lbs? yikes.
The other thing that inherantly bothers me about Gubberment Motors cars is their "black box" data recorder.
Motor trend didn't hate the car but it did come in 3rd out of 3 in a new comparison test. M3 (oldest car in the test) took top honors.
It just can't be justified for the price. I think it will go the way of the XLR regular and V series - substantial discounts to get them off the lot.
hey ivangene, & you don't have to drive a 100 miles to get to a dealership or a indy to work on it, well thats my case anyway, i actually don't see alot of porsches in la., i guess we're just a poor state.
We considered trading my wife's 996 Tip on a CTS but never my 993. I like the styling and performance but remember it is still an American car . As such it will self destruct after the warranty expires. At least it has no IMS to worry about.
