Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So with some help from Stefan I got all four OEM components out and replaced over the weekend.
Leading evidence: 'Replace over the weekend' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best 250 i've spent in a long time' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace dash speakers first, still' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The difference is absolutely staggering - probably the best 250 I've spent in a long time.

Suggestion
I was hoping to change the dash speakers first, still using the stock amp to see the difference.
Use dremel so thought it wouldn't be too difficult

Suggestion
I'm not that clued up to be honest but i've swapped out H/U and amps before and i can use a dremel so thought it wouldn't be too difficult.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So with some help from Stefan I got all four OEM components out and replaced over the weekend. Installed MBQuart QSC 210s in the stock dash and back seat spots.
I have an 04 with the HiFi package- basically a middle ground between stock and Bose which comes with teh dash, door and rear seat speakers and a six channel amp connected to the MOST ring.
Mounted the speakers are per Stefan on Renntech's instructions:
http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...ndpost&p=61796
Which worked perfectly. Then mounted the two front crossovers behind the cd console and the back ones under the parcel shelf.
The difference is absolutely staggering - probably the best 250 I've spent in a long time. Took 4 or 5 hours total and I can't even begin to describe the improvement.
demw.
I had MB's before and really liked them. I went with the focal this time and have been pretty happy. I had the stock system before and Kia's stereo blew that away- porsche def. doesnt worry about spending the $ on the audio and I suppose that is a good thing.
Please help i've just purchased the same speakers MB Q 210s. I have a y2000 C2 with the Audio upgrade.
I was hoping to change the dash speakers first, still using the stock amp to see the difference. But i've just been told by a not so helpfull audio shop that the outputs from the amp are different and will do damage.
I'm not that clued up to be honest but i've swapped out H/U and amps before and i can use a dremel so thought it wouldn't be too difficult.
I wanted to keep the stock H/U as i like the factory look. I've never used crossovers before but again my understanding is. You take a cable from 1 ch of the amp to the crossover and then feed from the crossover to the tweeter and the 4" mid speaker.
Please could someone confirm, i'm sure i'm worried about nothing i've read loads of good reports on here on the MBs so i'm sure your all right and the audio shop is doing the usual it's a Porsche so i'll make it sound complicated and charge the earth, he can afford it he's got a Porsche!!!!!!!
Great forum, thanks for all the help.
Cheers Chris
