Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I admit it, Much to my regret, I installed a new set of (stock clone) shocks that are abysmal leaving me with an exaggerated body roll that didn't exist before. It's not anything else causing the problem. I had replaced them since I was having the suspension replaced to 'save' on the labor and my better half balked (loudly if you know what I mean) after she saw the price on the OEM shocks. If you have done this before, or know authoritatively this would will mitigate the issue. No speculation please. I've already done the speculation for you Edit: With the replies and input, I am simply going to replace the cheap Chinese shocks I purchased. So please do not make any further posts/replies to this thread. I consider the speculative question I ask has been fully resolved.

POST 2Original post

I know you wrote "no speculation", but the fact that you developed this exaggerated body roll after replacing the shocks seems to suggest that the proper, corrective action requires replacing the shocks again. I am wondering what you consider "stock clone" shocks. Do you know their model name, have a photograph or a part number?

This is very simply rectified. Seperate secret bank account.

POST 4Original post

Sway bars are not supposed to be used for roll control. Springs are too soft or shock travel is too long.

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 20634574

Not true...."sway" bars do exactly that, they help control the sway of the chassis. I would agree, if he's getting that much roll, the springs are to soft and allowing the car to be to unsettled and maxing out the sway bars ability to stabilize the chassis.

POST 6Original post

I should have clarified, sways should not be used for *coarse* roll control. Sways are better suited for fine tuning dynamic weight transfer.

POST 7Original post

What others have said. It ain't the sway bars. Please share what shocks you had installed so that we may avoid them. If they introduced additional body roll they must be truly horrid, because the springs and sway bars are the major players in that realm.

POST 8Original post

It seems strange that Ive been on this forum (as well as others) for roughly 12 yrs, and Ive never heard of any shocks/struts referred to as stock clones or even Bilstein clones It seems like someone did some fast talking and pulled one over on you. Seeing as youve already acknowledged your mistake, the question becomes, how to fix it. Sway bars are clearly not the answer. Did you speak to the shop that sold you the parts? They are either 1 - substandard parts, or more likely -2- the wrong parts for your particular car. There are at least 3 different shocks/struts specd depending on which chassis you have. If you really want help/suggestions here youll have to specify; Year, body/chassis style, and what type/model shocks/struts were on it before you changed them. Wishing you luck

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I appreciate everyone's input on the matter. I was speculating myself if this would fix the issue. To answer the question regarding the 'clone' shock remark, it was a set of cheap Chinese shocks off ebay. My has been aghast at my restoration efforts after I apparently misunderstood her $20K spending remark, I'd already exceeded that with the initial purchase and subsequent bare metal up repainting. I guess I'm simply going to go ahead and take the shellacking ahead and purchase a set that works. I don't particularly want to go with the Bilsteen set because I'm not interested in any 'performance' upgrades so I will be limiting my search to OEM replacements. BTW, I have unsubscribed to this thread having come to a decision on my recourse. Thank you to all that have responded.

POST 10Original post

Disappointment awaits around every corner… Research before you buy, slow down, do it right.

POST 11Original post

ActuaLOL at the final remark on the decision having been made. doesnt want upgrades from Bilstein, who make all performance grades of the OE shocks (from base through the sport packages), but rolled the dice on some mystery meat eBay shocks. Theres never time to do it right, but theres always time to do it twice. Its okay OP, well be here for you once youve implemented this decision and cant fathom how it possibly went wrong.

I've been around a while too and until a few weeks ago, I had never heard of coolant referred to as 'radiator fluid'.

POST 14Original post

Well, DD has left the building, but I suspect we haven't heard the last of this saga.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20635213

To clarify, these were Chinese made and sold on Ebay. Hence "no name/clone". I believe it's the springs since they were part and parcel of the shocks. instead, now I have a set of Bilstien shocks arriving tomorrow. I'll have the local shop install them in the next couple of weeks.
