Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
Probably the squirmy feel is just the full thread depth on the rear tires.
Leading evidence: 'squirmy feel is just the full thread depth' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'squirmy feel is just the full thread depth' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run 7 up front 14 out back' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Have any of you guys ever noticed a change in handling from the spacers?
I recently put on hubcentric staggered spacers 7mm and 14mm, at the same time I put on bypass pipes that removed a lot of weight from the rear.
Everything was great for a few weeks, handling actually seemed a bit improved.
But more recently I put the stock cans back on and also got new rear tires.
Not sure what it is, but straight-line stability / handling now feels just a bit "squirrely" for lack of a better term.
A bit of quicker turn-in which is good, but at freeway speeds the car feels a bit unsettled i.e. during quick lane changes.
So now I'm not sure if it's (a) the spacers, (b) new tires with lots of tread, or (b) having the extra weight on the back again.
Do staggered spacers sometimes give a bit of this faster turn-in/back-end wiggle feeling?
Probably the squirmy feel is just the full thread depth on the rear tires.
To test that out just remove the spacers temporarily and drive the same area the car felt squirmy.
Dave, almost 100% that it's your new tires. I've gone through this with my black car in the past - EXACTLY! It should improve with time. Also, fyi, a guy I know who is a Porsche mechanic/club racer extrordinaire told me that a big part of it is also due to having old front tires that are now matched up with new rear tires. Not only is the tread depth different, but the rubber up front will have a different consistency than in back (due to its age). It'll be harder, iirc. He said that even with the same tire type, if you have old tires up front and new tires in back, the grip levels will be noticeably different enough to make the car feel...different...than normal. For this reason, he personally always replaces all four at the same time, even though the rears wear faster than the fronts in these cars.
When I got my next set of tires, I went with all four and my car's handling has never been better or more balanced.
Take it for what it's worth.
I'd agree with the above replies, Dave.
Not a scientific survey or anything, but I added 7mm/14mm spacers and new RE050A Pole Positions about 6 months ago, felt "different" with rear handling for awhile, but has since broken in nicely. I don't notice any difference now, so I'd attribute it to new tread.
Yeah, that's what I'm running.
Haven't had time to experiment with removing the spacers.
I did bump up the rear pressure from about 36psi (autocross pressure) back to about 42psi and that seemed to help a bit.
Wasn't sure if larger spacers on the rear could give this slight change in behavior, maybe it is just the new rear tires...
Scott, maybe I need to get back out to the autocross and scrub off some rubber, ha!
running spacers does affect handling...
Old school 911 used to swap the rear tires to the front and front to the rear to plant the front more and have more oversteer or less undrsteer...
The 996 gt3 mk1 came with standard 5mm front spacer... its a common practice to put on spacers to fine tune handling issues... But we are talking about super drivers here. For us mortals... I dont think we can really exploit the reasons behind it.
The squirmy feel... tires, rollbar, suspension, engine mounts, road...etc.
