Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My body shop said that the wing needed a lot of work to prep / sand, etc before painting. It will cost me about 1800 to have the side skirts painted and put on (Porsche OEM-they said those were very clean and needed minimal prep at best), wheels painted and the wing prepped and painted. They are a reputable shop that will do great work. Any advice or other thoughts about the body work for the wing from someone else who has done one?

POST 2Original post

We just did a Misha Wing. Email me: [email removed] You are overpaying.

POST 4Original post

The OEM Side Skirts should not cost more than $300 even with very high quality paint because, like you said, they don't much work. Mine were done by Concours quality shop (Eurofinish, NA/)here with First rate german flexible primer and paint for $290, including materials. Not a speck of dust caught in the paint work

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mike, how much would they have charged to install them as well?

POST 6Original post

Install on the OEM side skirts(rockers)will not be more than 1 hour. Very easy. Did you get the PDF instruction from Chad996?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, but I would just assume have the body shop do it all and pick it up ready to go.

POST 8Original post

The prep work and paint should be no more than 400 for the wing.

POST 9Original post

I have to agree that the Misha wing needed a ton of prep work. I saw it at several stages of prep and think the wing could have come a bit better preped from Misha. But I am sure his production techniques are improving.

POST 10Original post

The wing we did required extensive additional work due to pinholes. But we got past it, just cost us twice the estimated labor. We typically do these for $275-$300 depending on wing and condition. Full prep, flex prime and color/clear, all with our 14-stage process, and all to factory chemistry and specs. Perfect, every time. Rockers? Usually factory rockers are simple enough, and we do them in the $375/pair range. Again, depends on condition they arrive to us in.

POST 12Original post

I must say mine didn't have any pinholes to speak of, overall it was pretty high quality upon arrival.

POST 13Original post

I paid $900 for prep, paint, and install of my GT3 front and side skirts. And that is from the overpriced paint shop here in vegas that only deals with exotics...but they also so the best work and are the only ones reccomended by the dealer. $1800 is WAY too much.

POST 14Original post

Oh yeah forgot to ask....who/what the heck is MISHA??? I have seen MASHAW in Excellence and other mags advertise, but no Misha.

POST 15Original post

LOL! I thought the same the first time I saw Misha's name. Misha is a dude who designs and makes wings. Kirby and others have bought wings from Misha. His website is: http://www.996wings.com

POST 16Original post

Thanks! That clears it up. All is right in the world once again

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The estimate for the spoiler was 10 HRS to sand and prep it, 2 HRS to wet sand and buff it, 4 HRS to refinish it, and 6 HRS of install time (the directions call for it to be fitted, then taken off, then prep'ed and sanded, then painted, then refit. Someone pls deconflict this. Eric?

POST 18Original post

Maybe Eric (bumperplugs) should chime in on this one again, but 16 of prep and paint time and 6 hours of install time? And they were able to look at you with a straight face when they told you this? If I am not mistaken, the TSB for the factory wing (Aero I) paint is billed out at a total of 7 hours and the install is billed out at just more than 2 hours. My suggestion would be get a quote from Eric and then get a quote from the dealer for the install on a painted wing.

POST 19Original post

The install took 2hrs for the boys at RPM racing for mine. The install is straight forward, that's a rip, no spoiler needs that amount of finishing. Just sold mine, it's basically ready to bolt on.

POST 20Original post

It took me 2hrs to take off the old wing and install the new wing for fittment. Very simple, and described in a funcarsonline thread. I am still waiting for paint and am trusting my local shop without an estimate for time and material costs. They have always been fair to me but I will let you know how much when done. (They are going to work it in.) The new harness cost 50$ from the dealer. Will

POST 21Original post

Yeah, the hours quoted might be 'thinking' time. Thinking about where to spend your money once it's in their pocket. Way over on the time number.

POST 22Original post

got a misha gt2 wing, the finishing is poor n you could see the uneveness/wavy.

POST 23Original post

Are these wings from MISHA that cheaply priced? It sounds like they are crappy quality and require substantial prep time to bring up to snuff for paint.

POST 24Original post

They are not bad quality at all. They are very good, but with these materials you don't often see the flaws (pinholes mostly) until you begin layering the coatings. Many shops will shoot it with primer and color then clear. They think they're done. We use multi-step processes that require more cure time, and in between we're able to catch most of the problem. It takes longer, uses more material and labor, but the end result is absolute perfection. And it does not cost a bundle. We know one shop charging $1000 for the same wing, we do it for under $400, and the results are spectacular. The Misha products are well made, but do require more prep. That's all.

POST 25Original post

Makes sense...thanks for the clarification Eric. See, that is why I reccommended the "paint expert" to chime in

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Eric, If I had known from the start, I would have given you the business without hesitation. Unfortunately, I promised my cousin I would let her use the 911 to get married in, and that is next weekend, so I am stuck trying to get this done soon. I just went back to the body shop and asked them to reconsider those estimates and get back with me. We'll see. Thanks all for your input....Eric

POST 27Original post

Let her get married in a wingless 911 for crying out loud! Or just raise the auto spoiler with the switch by the fuse panel to keep it up. Paintwork is not something I would overspend on nor take it to anybody that it trying to price gouge me. I think this is something you may come to regret if you choose to get it done based on circumstances rather than rational planning.
