I saw an oil analysis on the new 0w40 and it had less additives than 0w40 tested a few months ago.

Suggestion
If I could find this in 10-40W I would use it in a heartbeat.....After all they are saying this oil, different from the usual M1 and factory fill?, is good for 15,000 miles which is the suggested change interval now.

Well, if the additives prolong the life of the oil, doesn't that mean that the oil will lubricate better for a longer period of time?

Anyone using the new Mobil 1 Extended Performance Motor Oil? Reading through it, it seems to be the perfect oil for high performance cars like our's. Besides, it has the 10W-40 grade that my 2002 Owner's Manual calls for.
Here's a brief description below plus the link for further reading. I'm just curious on everyone's opinion.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance products contain 50 percent more SuperSyn, 37 percent more cleaning agents, and 36 percent more anti-wear additives than Mobil 1.

My owners book states to use 10-40W. I have not been able to buy that weight here in NJ. The dealer says they have only used 0-40W and that is what I bought from them. If I could find this in 10-40W I would use it in a heartbeat.....After all they are saying this oil, different from the usual M1 and factory fill?, is good for 15,000 miles which is the suggested change interval now. (which I still have a hard time accepting but then I use to change points, condenser and plugs in a car)....
Actually, Porsche's factory fill is 0-40w. The extended life oil has more additives. Additives don't lubricate but they prolong life of oil, which isn't needed since 996 are designed with longer service interval.
My guess is ext life oil won't lubricate as well as regular 0-40w.
This is exactly what the new Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil description is. Also it's available in 10W-40.

Porsche reccomends 0w40, 5w40 and 5w50 weight oils. 10w40 should be fine if it's not extremely cold weather.
Mobil apparently reduced the additive levels in the new version of the plain Mobil 1 oils. This was done to meet the new GF4/SM oil specifications. This exaggerates the apparent increase in additives in the extended performance versions of Mobil 1.
The new GF4/SM specifications limit the phosphorus in oils. It may poison catalytic convertors. This limits the amount of the excellent antiwear/antifriction additive ZDDP in new oils. The new extended performance oils do not meet GF4/SM.
The new Mobil 1 0w40 does meet GF4/SM. This may be a bad thing. I saw an oil analysis on the new 0w40 and it had less additives than 0w40 tested a few months ago. Hopefully Mobil has added some new things that don't show on a routine oil analysis
