Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
Have the B&M in car and its also very similar to the Porsche OEM SS, happy with it, nice change from stock.
Leading evidence: 'Replace from stock' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace from stock' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know that there are some experts out there that might be able to advise me concerning a ssk. I have heard people elude to tunnel mount vs some other configuration. I have gathered that B&M is the manufacturer to go with but are there multiple configs. for my 996..........Jeff
Sorry if this has already been played to death but I am really at a loss here!
Porsche or B&M (virtually same) are done from inside the car. I installed it on my 04 Targa and loved the improvement. I think you can find instructions on renntech.org.
One piece of advice that is not clear on the B&M instructions is to mark the cable locations with nail polish or whiteout so that you put them back EXACTLY where they were. Also, when you pull out the center console, put some soft towels around it. It's very easy when you are twisting it to put a scratch on it. Other than that, it's about 2 hours to do, easy and the instructions are very detailed.
I did the B&M kit last week. Took about an hour and a half taking my time. Best mod for the $$$$ I have done so far. The instructions that come with the kit are very good except for one point. You do not need to disconect the shift cables as discribed. Just pop the ends off the shifter itself. You will see what I mean when you open up the center console. This saves counting or marking the threads to reinstall. All the work is done from inside the car and again the best mod for the $$$$ (so far, it never seems to end). Do it yourself and good luck.......
