Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

2) also had cleaned MAF, new plugs, and filter on air inlet is dry type
Leading evidence: 'Clean maf, new plugs, and filter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check / try and random thoughts' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Try cleaning the MAF and see if this improves the problem.

Brought the car in from California and the previous owner had modified it with headers and a cold air intake (very clean solid installation).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hello everyone!
After 25 years of dreaming, I finally did it and purchased a '99 Carrera c2 Cab, ocean blue.
For the last 4 weeks since it arrived, everyone says that I have this non stop silly grin on my face!
I knew that I would be happy, but seriously.......I can't wait to wake up each morning so I can drive the car!
Brought the car in from California and the previous owner had modified it with headers and a cold air intake (very clean solid installation). So sound is amazing when you accelerate hard and yet very quiet when cruising so it doesn't wear on the ears.
I do have a question that maybe someone can comment on.........when I accelerate at half throttle, the acceleration is smooth and quick right up to the redline. However, if I "mash" it, in 3rd gear and up, it seems to "bog down" between 4 and 5000 rpm and then picks up again and revs smoothly to the redline.
I won't say that it's a "misfire" but rather the feeling is either too little, or too much air or fuel in that rpm range.
I'm wondering if the effect of the headers/air intake need to be compensated by a change to the programming in the computer, or something else?
Any comments/experience on this would be great.
Kudos on the 996 and becoming a member before post #1... I was the same way when my 2001 came in... like a kid at Christmas... we are very fortunate people, let's not forget that.
Congratulations on your new car, you will find that most here have the same passion! I can't help with the bogging down, but I am sure someone here can help. I suggest that you post some pics of your car and list some options before the pic police (aka Tim
) get to you!
*EDIT* - Variocam kicks in 1000 rpm higher, around 5500, not 4500. So I'm not sure what your issue is. My dynos all show a nice consistent curve from 2000-5500, then a HP sag from 5500-5800, then a steeper curve to 6400 where it flattens out to redline. This is all done in a straight increasing run, so you'll likely see differences as you are shifting and such.
I have dyno charts of my car on multiple dynos on multiple pulls, and you can see the effect on the charts.
Welcome!
I know what you mean about the sound - I have modified intakes/headers/exhausts and it makes a mean growl when you put your foot down. Don't worry, the grinning and the checking out the car in the garage will wear off.... in around 6 months.
Welcome and congratulations to your new car. Would love to see some pics.
I'm on month 3 of ownership and I still get hypnotized every time I go out in the garage. The car has been in the shop for RMS leak since Thursday last week (had some other stuff done at the same time) and I really miss her already. Can't wait to pick her up tomorrow.
Congratulations on fulfilling the dream....I finally did the same for the second time. I know the feeling you are referring to.
Things to maybe check / try and random thoughts. In descending order....
1. I will get the same bog / stutter with certain brands of fuel at the same RPM range (my 99 Carrera). I get a sort of a "breaking up" feeling or a mis as you have described that goes away with RPM and is repeatable unless you roll the throttle on. I am unsure if it is related to ethanol in the gas or some other additive. May try a good 93 octane and see if this helps. It just may be detonation at this point in the power curve and the computer pulling timing to compensate.
2. Plugs - how many miles on current set? If wore, may contribute to pinging under load. I had an SC that would repeatably ping at the same point on the power curve due to wore plugs.
3. I had my MAF output go "erratic" according to the dealer after the installation of a K&N filter - the oil supposably causes the MAF to read erroneously resulting in problems in the rev range. I do not know what kind of filter your CAI has. Try cleaning the MAF and see if this improves the problem.
4. And (long-shot) , the paper filter in the stock box slows / smoothes airflow to allow the MAF to read more accurately. Depending on the design of the CAI, I have heard / read that uneven air flow over the MAF can cause measurement issues. Someone else would have to provide more info here if this is even a valid info....
I am surprised to see this come back around but for the record, I will say the following
1) using 93 octane has definetly smoothed out the "hesitation"
2) also had cleaned MAF, new plugs, and filter on air inlet is dry type
3) 2 years later and still have silly grin on my face everytime I walk up to car so I unfortunetly think this is permanent disfiguration and should sue Porsche!!
