Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I presently have a 2001 c2 which iam selling for either of the cars mentioned. I know both the cars and have driven them both but not back to back so i cant remember ! I drove a C4S 997 against my car 2001 C2 and on a straight line till 180 km there is not much of a difference in car lengths ( GOOD NEWS FOR THE C2 GUYS ! ) but i felt the c4s was much more stable and the handling was incredible. On performance alone i wasnt to impressed compared to the older C2. The turbo i drove was modified and was incredibily too fast for me , i need to know stock driving conditions. As a 996 owner looking for advice from 996 owners here i go... 1) I drive less tha 3k miles a year , not a daily driver at all. 2) Is the C4S a better all around finished product compared to TT 996, I have a C2 so i know the basic differences. Engine is the major thing. Better to have a turbo or a 3.8. 3) how much faster is the turbo ? and is it worth the move. Thank You

POST 4Original post

I own a 996 TT and have driven the 997 S 3 times in different roads and conditions... 997 S is a newer car whatever that means BUT TT is a different car. 996 TT is the answer for sure.

POST 5Original post

Errico: See what I mean? On the 997 board the opinions were 100% 997. Here, the opposite. Drive them both, buy what YOU like best. (But I'd still get the TT )

POST 7Original post

What are the model years for each car you are considering?

POST 8Original post

Perhaps you are relatively new to Porsche. The classic answer is always: "Buy the newest Porsche that you can afford." That rule has been around a very long time, and is still applicable today.

But not quite as relevant when comparing N/A to TT.

POST 10Original post

Turbo. No question for numerous reasons. Do your research. There's lots of sources on this site.

POST 11Original post

It kinda seems like you're trying to compare newer apples to older oranges?

POST 12Original post

I've asked myself exactly the same question and landed in the 996 TT corner.

POST 13Original post

For me the answer depends a lot on your goals, wants, needs. If you want to make a lot of power or would otherwise se yourself modifying, 996TT. Concerned about things like catastrophic engine failure? 996TT Like natural aspiration and high redlines? 997C4S If creature comforts are more important than max power, a 997 C4S is still plenty quick but a luxo barge by comparison to the TT. Looks? That is a matter of personal preference. I think the TT is a meaner looking, more serious car. I think the 997 C4S is more classic Porsche-look, between the wider looking hips (even though width is pretty close, little visual tricks help) and the conventional headlamps. Depreciation? Both continue to drop like a stone. Long term maintenance? This is a newer car vs. older car thing. I've been within an inch of biting on a 6TT or a 7C4S a couple of times this winter, mostly because I think I'm over the "must be RWD" thing, don't care so much if the 997 is heavier etc, but didn't pull the trigger because my car is really all I need, has been very reliable, costs me nothing to own (aside from depreciation obviously). When that changes, I'll be back on the market. Right now though, I'm speculating on 360 spider price trends into the winter, might get down to where I can't say no (of course I wouldn't sell the 911) OK you know what, forget everything I said, I use mine as a DD and my analysis involves daily livability in lots of different weather. If you're doing 3K miles a year, 996 frickin twin turbo, some cheap ECU tuning for more boost and redline, and a permanent grin, ear to ear.

POST 14Original post

hard to say....between new technology(997) and more hp (996).........the solution would be 997.2 ......but thats a long wait for me......

POST 15Original post

I went from a 996 C4S to a 996 TT S. My wife has a 997 S. Hard to compare - they're very different cars - but for my money it's got to be the TT. They're bullet proof, the engine and transmission are fantastic and you know it's a full supercar when you want it, but one that you can drive calmly every day when you want to. It is an AMAZING car. Don't get me wrong, the 997S is great, but nothing in comparison from an excitment perspective. The main thing the 997 has it just that it's newer, and has less rattles, the switchgear's better and all that a newer car has. Personally, I also don't like the interior of the 997 in comparison to the 996.
