Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

44 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

....with a solemn vow to search all threads before posting those "we have gone over that a million times before" questions. West Michigan. I had a 914 in 1974 and a 924 in 1980 -- previous lifetime. 1999 C4 a week ago. Greetings all.

POST 4Original post

welcome... post some pics for us and dont bother with the search thing... new threads are always welcome -sometimes it brings old problems to the surface so we can all see them

POST 6Original post

Howdy and welcome a) because you're newer than me and b) because of all the upcoming "that's For Mica" comments we can now make. {Psst, buddy, for your own sake, get some pictures of your car up here before Tim tears you a new one}

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

...."unless its about oil, RMS, IMS failure, or Tims love life." Well I did deep dive into all of the Rennlist threads regarding RMS and it REALLY helped me in my research before the purchase. OK, I'll figure out the photo posting process here in a few.

POST 8Original post

ask if you cant figure it out, we all had to learn it.... Tim's love life ? I dont recall ever talking about that -

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Shoot, each one of my photos is too large. guys. >3mb. I'll have to figure something out.

POST 10Original post

Welcome to the Forum - You'll love this place, good bunch of guys and many have seen it all before and have great advice. Can't wait to see the pics... Hopefully this doesn't hijack the thread... (nodding to Ed)... Oil, did someone mention oil? What's the oil of choice for us regular guys (DDs, no track days and can be found in any ordinary auto parts retail outlet)? Should I duck now or later? Rudy

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the welcoming statements everyone. This is a terrific site and just what I needed to tackle the learning curve. Hope these pics come through. I edited out my wonderful landscaping to crop these down.

POST 13Original post

Beautiful! Great Pics! I'm not a fan of yellow, but seems I warm up to it more and more. Congrats on your new ride. I'm not yet authorized to comment, but standby for help with the amber... Welcome again, Rudy

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 6629735

Agree! Yellow and orange don't mix. Clear side markers are all of $30 or so, and a 5 minute DIY. Just do it.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Amber sidelights! Jeez. After months of researching 996s and cramming my head with stuff I've never heard of.....amber sidelights never hit the radar. But I see your point. That means I'll need amber bulbs I suppose. I'll get on that after I sort out the muffler rattle and find a hardtop hoist.

POST 17Original post

very nice...welcome aboard. Let us know if we can spend your money for you. BTW, I think you can get away with the standard sides...probably only on a yellow car IMO.

POST 18Original post

silver bulbs (not amber) they are much nicer Try These Guys...LINK Very helpful, just order a set and save having to go back for the front and back blinkers Also Amberectomy - Good Link Here and pics of the ARS would be nice

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 6629646

Welcome! Make sure when you change your oil during the summer you use 15W-50, and replace your clutch when you do the scheduled RMS replacement and IMS fix. Tim has a love life?

POST 20Original post

Welcome, and enjoy your car. You are going to love summer once you get that hardtop off.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for your compliments and suggestions, guys. But here goes.....I'm not sure what ARS stands for, ivangene (duck, cringe).

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh I have the HT off now Steven B. Need to find a suitable hoist. BTW, yellow was a concession to the wife and daughter. My old 914 and 924 were silver. Maybe I'll find those pics since I'm now on a roll.

POST 23Original post

ARS - *** (politely speaking) AKA the back side of the car Yellow looks great ! I have some yellow parts -DONT ASK!- hahahaha

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ARS, backside, got it! Here it is ivangene. And thanks so much for resizing the image for my avatar. I was thinking about checking in with the JPEG forum to figure that part out.

POST 26Original post

Welcome to the list, from another newbie! She's a beauty.

POST 27Original post

man thats nice... if you look in the rear blinkers and see any amber (bulbs) when you pick up the ones for the side, get a set there too... subtle but nice little mod. Costs about $10 and only takes a few minutes to swap Man- it looks really clean... how many miles on it? Also - your welcome... if you have another one you would rather have, just let me know....I promise not to add a hood scoop, side pipes, flames and jack it up (some people will laugh at this inside joke)

POST 28Original post

very clean!! the orange sidemarkers don't look all that bad with the yellow

POST 29Original post

Welcome to the forum that has so much to offer. Your cab is beautiful, great color!

SHHH - we had him going down the "mod path of no return" Rememer, they are ugly and YOU have the power to make them look AMAZING for very little out of pocket time/money

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It has 35,400 miles. OK I promise to look into the amber issue AFTER I address the rattle in the muffler which was NOT mentioned in the PPI and did NOT begin rattling until I drove it home across the state. Thanks again for all of your compliments. The damn thing REALLY is beautiful and I can't believe its in my garage.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 6630985

+1... Start making up excuses to visit the garage... my advice: put a refridgerator out there... gives you a reason to go out there anytime day or night, and it's a short walk to refreshment while you're rubbing her with a microfiber cloth... Rudy

POST 34Original post

rattle might be Catalytic converter... if so it might be covered by Porsche... there has been some talk about these going out and causing rattle, plus depending on your year and mileage / purchase place they (it bad) could be replaced by Porsche - LINK read post #6 from "himself"

POST 35Original post

Purdy car! Welcome. It will be good in the snow! Don't wait too long to order your snow tires they run out about Sept. Porsche will replace a bad Cat if it throws a CEL.

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks ivangene and C4CRNA, I took it in for a quick go-over the other day, and then to a local muffler shop and we think the baffler popped a weld in the left muffler. We are not thinking cats, fortunately. I'm outside the cat warranty. I have located a left muffler from a 99 (description says 3.6 which is incorrect, I think). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/left-...Q5fAccessories Also found matching mufflers from a c2 3.6 litre. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT Would you happen to know if the 3.6 mufflers would fit a 3.4? Might sound different I'd imagine. And I wonder if c2 mufflers can go on a c4.

POST 37Original post

ewe... both of those look a bit tired!! I have 3.4 motor and swapped for 3.6 cans, but then I modified the cans LINK see post #520 This is a long thread, but there good stuff there I paid $125 for my new cans and have seen the 3.4's go for less... in better shape than those. IMO get the 3.6's but find some newer looking ones...

POST 38Original post

Welcome aboard. Although the color leaves something to be desired!!! Just kidding, I love SY, and like you, it was more of a suggestion of the wife.

POST 39Original post

I must admit, yellow and orange are two of the last colors I would pick; however, they do look good and they also grow on you very quickly. Welcome.

POST 40Original post

Quotes source post: 6629681

That's because there is nothing to talk about!

POST 41Original post

Beautiful car. Welcome to the forums and our corner of insanity. Enjoy it in good health,

POST 42Original post

Ah - I'll add my welcome to the list, and I gotta say my wife would not tolerate a yellow car, but I like them. Orange markers are fine on that car, but for $30 I guess clears would look better. cheers - you've inspired me to post some pics of my new car which I got very recently but only posted cheesy dealer pics of. Stay tuned.

POST 43Original post

Mica, Welcome to Rennlist and Congrats on getting the nice looking SY 996. Thanks for posting the pics.
